Question E92 M3 Roof Appendage

Is the roof mounted fin thing part of some package (bluetooth?) I can avoid, or is this the actual antenna for the radio? I don't really like the way it looks - never have.

Does it only come with cars equipped with (609) Navigation system (GPS antenna?) or is it standard with (693) Satellite radio preparation or (640) Phone preparation?

In the UK the fin only comes with Bluetooth equipped cars.

Can it be removed if it comes standard and is not being used, or is there a wire connected to it that would leave a hole in the roof?

Does it come with 'BMW Assist with Bluetooth® wireless technology?'

It will come with any communications package, it's basically an aerial for the phone, phone signals are re-routed from the handset via the cradle to the roof aerial. So Assist with Bluetooth will have this aerial and I believe it would leave a hole if removed.

Is it not also the Nav system antenna?

I'll be ordering my car without bmw assist, nav or the tech pkg so hopefully my car will show up sans aerial/fin. If I was interested in any of that stuff, the fin wouldn't stop me from getting it though.

Hopefully that just speaks to the popularity of the various options that include it.

In the UK, you can get a standard E92 with Nav, no Bluetooth and no fin. However the fin is actually standard on E92 M3's over here it seems.

I do recall when the E92 first launched there were some differences with US spec cars and which options received the fin however I think you are going to get this fin whatever happens.

Too bad they don't wire the radio signals through the rear window like on my e46. I always thought that was a cool feature.

I haven't seen any pics of a e92 without a fin. Also, since I believe every BMW comes with BMW assist now the fin will always be present. If you remove it it will leave a hole in your roof.

I believe BMW Assist is only standard in the US?

It is shown as an option still on the leaked order docs (US) that I have seen posted.

A couple facts, personal notes regarding the fin....

In most countries, on a standard E90/E91/E92/E93 the fin is optional, although I do not recall specifically what package(s) it is included with, but Sat Radio, BMW Assist, Bluetooth, Nav may or may not be some of the packages. In the USA, the only E9x that the Fin is deletable on is the E93, by deleting 'Sat Radio Prep' from your order, you don't receive the Fin.

With all of that being said, on the E92 M3 the Shark Fin is standard regardless of your location in the world. Whether this is deletable or not, I do not know, but given it's standard everywhere in the world, you can guess the chances that it will be deletable in the US.

i doubt if you can avoid the fin in the E90/91/92, it seems to be standard from my observation. The E93 has the fin mounted on the booth.

From my personaly experience, if your car has SAT prep or Bluetooth, you will get the fin. It may also be standard w/ I-Drive as well.

BMW Assist is a stand alone option and is included in the Premium Pkg. BMW Assist was good for your first 12 months through MY 2006, in MY 2007 that was increased to 4 years.
The fin is considered part of the car's design in NA and cannot be deleted from the factory.

Ditto. In any case, bluetooth is a major option. Now that I have the snap in cradle for my Blackberry I can't imagine not having it.
