Clunk sound when putting Auto into park

Car only has 3500 miles on it or so and is otherwise great. However, if I go drive a bit and put it in park whether warm or cold the transmission shakes the whole car in one loud CLUNK. This is a lot louder than other Auto's I've driven... ideas?

I was planning it to take it autocrossing this weekend so a little bit worrisome.

Is your foot on the brake and is the car standing still?
Hold the brake while you put it into park and hold it until you turn the car off.
