2011 e92 M3 CPO vs M3 at carmax
Hello guys,
I have been eyeing a couple M3's with both of them being local. Yet I cant seem to make up my mind on which one to get! Was wondering IF either of them are even good deals. Car #1: 2011 e92 M3 CPO (end 7/26/17)- -Space Grey exterior with Red interior -DCT -Premium, Winter, and Technology packages -Premium sound -Navi -52,xxx miles -Dealer asking $43,698 -my trade in (2009 CPO 335i manual coupe) is at 22,000 Car#2: 2011 e92 M3 -White on red -6spd Manual -Premium, winter, and technology package -Premium sound -Navi -33,xxx miles -Carmax is asking $47,998 -Have not gotten my car appraised yet Car#3: 2010 e92 M3 -Gray on Gray -DCT -Technology, premium, competition, and winter packages -Premium sound -Navi -72,xxx miles -Carmax is asking $36,998 -Have not gotten my car appraised yet Why im choosing to even look at cars from carmax (I know its a bit pricier by a few thousand) is because of the extended warrenty. I have a friend who has this warranty on his E90 M5, and its already paid itself off. All the work is done at the only BMW dealer in town and he said it covers everything but wear and tear (pretty much like a CPO). Whats also good, is the warranty starts the day you buy the car and covers up to 6 years or 125k total miles. So basically, from these 3 cars, which is the best deal? Or are any of these cars a good deal at all? I have no preference for DCT or manual, I want any color but Black (last two BMW's have been black so i want a change), and I NEED a warranty. The CPO is very enticing, but Ive heard good things about carmax's warranty. What do you guys think? (and sorry for the long post) |

You should really determine a preference for DCT or manual first. It's a pretty major decision on how you enjoy your car. That said, in most cases on these cars, better condition is more correlated with lower miles more so than newer year.

I would look for 2009 DCT with reletively low milage. I have exactly the same car since new. Only 30,000 miles. Looks and feels almost like new. If you find something like this, you will save lots of money. 2010 and up, cost much more.

I guess I should have mentioned: financially, im trying to keep the difference between my trade in and m3 to be $20k or less. Edit: In the last few days i have found a few new cars, and looking at groundpilots advice, I starting looking at 2009 dcts. Found a 2009 DCT e92 m3 with 18k miles for 40k. It's got navi and premium package but that's it. Dealer mentions extended warranty is available so I'll see what they say! Last edited by thecurryman; 02-11-2014 at 11:46 PM.. Reason: More info |

Car number 3 is misdescribed as having competition package. I believe that was only available on MY2011 and later.
With that being said, I bought my M3 from carmax about 1.5 years ago. I even had the car shipped from California to Illinois. My experience was pretty positive although the price was just mediocre. The extended warranty was another selling point for me which I've had to use and glad I purchased. Whatever you end up doing, good luck and enjoy your future ride. |

Thanks for the further responses.
I found someone selling their 2009 e92 CPO Silverstone with 42k miles for $37,000 locally. Its also a manual and has the options that I would want (prem sound, prem package, heated seats). Im gonna go look at that later this week. Does that sound like a good price? (CPO runs out at late 2015) As for the car at carmax, i went and checked out car #2 and although I really liked it, it would have cost me about $50k with the warranty. Like the other post above said, the prices are no the greatest, but the warranty is the selling point. Im just waiting for a 2009 with lower miles to show up at carmax (for less than $38k) and I'd jump on it! Although, now that I look at it carmax doesn't even know how to describe their M3's correctly. Just look at this: http://www.carmax.com/enus/view-car/...results%20page Says theres a turbocharged engine.... Last edited by thecurryman; 02-16-2014 at 02:04 PM.. Reason: added carmax link |
