Very Nervous Right Now...
This morning on the way to work, my heater vents started blowing cold air, followed within a couple of minutes by engine overheating warnings and sudden power loss. I pulled over and checked my codes with my JB4 and they were 2E82, and 2E81 which are water pump failure codes. I have an extended warranty with BMW and had to have the car towed to the stealership. I usually remove the JB4 when I take the car in for service but obviously couldn't do that in this case so I just turned it off by setting it to Map 0. Is there any way that they will detect the JB4 while troubleshooting a water pump/cooling issue? I'm worried that they will void my warranty.

Let me know how it goes. I have the extended warranty as well but no mods. I'd like to know how they treat the situation and how much you end up out of pocket.

If they run a short test and submit FASTA data, then BMW North America (or at least the people who reply to PuMA cases will know that you have it. I'm not sure about the map settings though. I'm curious to know.
FWIW: I know that you can program the car fine as well as use an ISID while having a JB4 installed. |

Aren't water pump failures common for n54? If they're anything like n52's I wouldn't see them even questioning whether it was caused by any "mod".

Mine went in exactly like yours. On a tow truck with JB4 on Map 0. Even had BMS intake on. Came back to me with a smile and, "Glad we could get you back on the road." 80k mi on car with CPO warranty.

JB4 shouldn't matter at all with waterpump issues.. Most techs are too stupid to notice, or even know what it is, and no FASTA data/Diag codes are necessary for waterpump replacement. I think you'll be fine

Thanks for the responses. I haven't heard back from them yet as they are still working through their holiday backlog. They tell me it will be Tues before they even look at the car. I'll report back how it turns out.

I'm also quite curious to hear of any issues with warranty work when the JB4 is left in. I'm nearing the end of my factory warranty and considering buying the extended, but it'd be nice to be able to leave the JB4 in and still have warranty coverage.

Just got the call from the SA at the dealership. It was the water pump, just as I suspected and they have it in the shop right now. Told me I could come pick it up this afternoon. No mention of the JB4, so obviously they were able to read the codes and troubleshoot the problem without discovering it. Good info for future service visits.

We did have a guy who tried to backyard program a few modules in his E70 M though. We knew exactly what he did, but there wasn't a PuMA or anything so the two modules were replaced under warranty. |

i went in for a dead battery and left tune in... they found that tune may have been causing the battery drain and would not warranty it and said i was flagged.
called another dealer where i had access for them to scan my warranty and showed that i was never flagged. sometimes i think they try to scare us, but as long as the tune was not the cause of the problem - you can always get warranty completed.
