Sports Car or Sporty Coupe?

I swear my 128i is more of a sports car than a sporty coupe. Power, speed, handling, 2 doors. It has everything that makes a sports car a sports car. What do you think?

I agree. Is it the fastest sports car? No. But it's no slouch and it fits every characteristic of a sports car.

128i M sport, manual, manual seats, no sunroof. That's about as raw as it gets nowadays. I love it.

To me it's neither.

I'd call it a 2-dr sports saloon (or sports sedan in US speak)

THIS.

the E82 is definitely not a 'sports car'.....a sporty coupe it most certainly IS!

the only 'sports cars' that BMW has made in recent years were the Z3 and Z4s. other than those, their lineup lacks anything that can really be called a sports car.

When I look at my insurance premiums, I would certainly think my insurance company looks at my 135i as a sports car!

sorry, the 128i is not the 'iron duke camaro' version 1 series some of you 135i guys want to think it is.

But to the OP's point, i don't consider the 1 series a 'sports car', but as a driver focused 3200lbs RWD car that makes a great sound, seats four, and you can get with a manual transmission, there are few other cars you can compare it to.

Like a Porsche 911 turbo or Nissan GT-R?

That being said, no, it is not a "sports car".

No offense meant to anybody in particular, but this is stupid. There is no black-and-white, universally accepted definition of what a "sports car" is. If you want to call your 128i a sports car, go for it. How many ridiculous genres of car are we supposed to distinguish between? Do you know how dumb it sounds to correct someone by saying, "No, it's a sports coupe/sporty coupe/performance coupe/etc." as if any of those terms actually mean anything?

No, that's called a mid-life crisis.

Didn't mean to offend but an example of what I used to own was a comparison. A Mazda 6 was a decent enough sedan compared to a Camry (better handling, quicker to 60) but compare that to the Mazdaspeed 6, it was sporty vs performance. Having driven both a 128 and a 135, it's night and day different. The 128 is a fine car and essentially the framework for the turbo and M Sport mods on the 135.

Hey, those iron duke Camaros are starting to increase in value. Keep an eye out for one that hasn't been beat to death.
