Dislocated my ankle a few months ago and am still on the road to recovery so I can't walk long distances. Eugene, OR got dumped with snow over night and because I drive the M3 as a DD, had to drive it to school on Bridgestone Potenza tires.
Got stuck going up a hill, had to reroute, and had to "Tokyo Drift" the rest of the way to school. Then got stuck in the parking lot because of the snow but luckily made it out and home safely. I will have to take advantage of public transportation. Be safe everyone! |

Dude, I thought I was nuts to drive my '13 SG E92 M3 ZCP with summer tires in the crap that dumped up here in PDX/Vancouver. I was terrified - I can't imagine how u felt. Flipped trucks in the ditch, cars backwards on the freeway... and my appointment for winter tire mount is tomorrow!! One day late.

You sir - are a brave man.
I remember the ONE time I ever drove in snow... It was in 2006 and I lived in Philadelphia, PA. I worked for SAP and one of the servers went down and I had to drive over there.. My E36 328is at the time was in the shop for some upgrades, and I had a rental Chevy Cobalt... Little did I know that car didn't have ABS, and I had never driven a car without it before. As I was going down a hill, I tried to slow down and instead slid for an entire block right into the back of another rental car stopped at a stopsign... epic fail! Glad you made it, it's probably much more fun with an LSD

Cars sliding down hills not being able to stop and running red lights.. Pretty bad today.. I bet Philly has some crazy weather too yeah? I'm shipping my car back up to Alaska in 2 weeks and I really don't wanna garage it so I'll have to do some research on some good winter tires that can take me up some steep hills. |

3 days after it snowed, I took the M3 to GolfTown to try out some clubs. When I was exiting, you had to go up this very slight incline hill which was about 25m long. I probably made it up 24m, and then the car started going backwards down the slope, no matter if I applied the brakes or accelerated.
I learned a pretty important lesson every since.

Looks scary. Back in 2001 I was driving my E36 M3 home to Michigan from where I purchased the car in Missouri. On the way home a snow/ice storm rolled in. I am pretty sure that night took five years off of my life.

I vividly recall my four yrs of living up in beautiful Anchorage, but it pains me to see that beautiful car out in the elements. I assume that you at least use a block heater? You would have to use thinner oil for those definitely COLD starts! If I were to ever rtn I would store it for the harsh winters for certain!
I had a customized Camaro back in those days, and at least rear studded tires was a MUST! I honestly don't know how you can maneuver let alone stay on the road in that beast M3. Best of luck to you up there.

I don't think I will drive the M3 during the winter. All of the salt and gravel they dump on the roads would destroy the underbody, paint and windows. It'll be a sad few months not bring able to actually drive my car up in AK |

I got caught out in the storm today in Philly. Tried to enjoy the car before the weather came to no avail. It was bone dry when I left out at 10am and the snow wasn't supposed to arrive 'til 3pm. WRONG!!!!! My wife texts me at noon to say it started already. Ok I said. Then I'm watching the Eagles game at the gym in "white out" conditions and I'm like "oh shit." 2 hours later and 3 or 4 spin outs into oncoming traffic as well as getting stuck at least 3 times, I finally got home!! Scariest driving conditions I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. I have one very small scratch on the rear bumper as a result that can be detailed out. Thank god. Let's just say I saw the late John Candy in that Devil suit from Plains Trains and Automobiles sitting next to me many times this afternoon. It was not pleasant. Lesson learned.

Performance tires in snow/ice is foolish, as these stories prove... Never drive in snow/ice without proper tires.
