stereo/computer face

I recently bought a 130i and when it is in the sun the stereo face loses pixels.The car is going back to the dealer this week to address a non working bluetooth computer and he said the new computer should address this issue as well.I am skeptical as they arent really related ?? anyone else had this issue .thanks .

Yes its a very common problem. Mine was barely visible on perth summer days. They offered to replace the unit but I am retrofitting idrive instead

My E82 135i does the same thing.. They quoted me around 2k to replace the head unit from memory!

My top row of pixels is on/off permanently in places. I just ignore it.

how much is that costing you? (if you don't mind me asking)
where are getting the parts from?
Are the you getting the 09+ bigger screen version?

Around 2k in parts after shipping etc from a guy in the UK. Doing most of the labour myself, with a little help from KD & friends. Its a bitch of a job

u can retrofit Idrive?!?! woot?!? yeah mine has the same problem.. perth summer kills the LCD thing pretty bad.

Not for the faint hearted. Virtually the whole front half of the car interior needs removal

Had my headunit replaced under warranty to fix the LCD & heat issue.

There is a guy in vic who will repair the MULF for $400 and repair the LCD screen for another $400 (Fit a new panel).

$800 is far cheaper than BMW and less wasteful.

I'll leave the screen but might do the MULF when I get around to it.

ah. yeah I saw someone rip out the front of an e90 to get idrive installed. sounds pretty neat if you could get it right though... be a weekend job I suppose.

ah man if only perth had good other than dealer options..
