I have been happy with Kumho KU31,s 225/40 front and 255/35 rears, Good performance excellent value IMO. I also run them on my wife's E91 and she has made positive comments about the changes from run flats. Next time i will give the new KU31's ago.
My brother in law is running the KU 31,s on his X1 23d and is really happy with them. Getting rid of the run flats will definitely improve your car. Enjoy |

It depends on what you want from a tyre. Max grip at the expense of comfort and noise levels? Something cheap? Value for money? Best all round tyre?

Hi DubKasper
I too intend to swap to non-RFT's when mine are due for replacement. I had good experience with Michelin PS3's as a mid-priced all round tyre on my previous Golf GTI (225/45 17's). PS3's will be on my shortlist. What size wheels do you have, as this may impact your options? eg., I have seen a reasonable range of tyres available for the stock 17" rims , ie 205/50 front and 225/45 rear, but you may have to go to slightly wider non RFT tyres if you're on 18's, e.g.., 225/40 front and 255/35 rears. Any of the major tyre mfr websites provide configurators that list tyre options based on the rim sizes you have (or intend to use), but obviously cannot predict if the tyre may rub if you intend to go wider than stock. |

i'm interested too. And what people are paying. From earlier reading Michelin Pilot Super Sports are the choice of most. How do they rate in the wet (last night was a shocker in Sydney)? What are peoples second choices for general daily driving and no track work?
BTW off topic, my wife's X3 picked up a screw in her front run flat (on the face not the side wall). Are these able to be fixed? |

I didn't end up going the conventional route and instead picked up a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2's for my 19's. Not many people vocal about them here, but they're fantastic, even in torrential rain.
PSS are a top tyre, its appearing everywhere; 458's, Koenigseggs etc ...but I don't think they are the best in the rain (read here some people experiencing aqua planning when approaching triple digit speeds). Basically a summer tyre. I think for a car you take on the road, wet weather performance is what is most important so go the ASYM2 for the best performance in that regard. Their dry performance is up there too. I think they appear as standard fitment on the whole Porsche 911 range. Last edited by PeteA; 11-16-2013 at 12:16 AM.. |

Hear lots of good things about Asymms and Asymm2s from the FWD/AWD car communities, they were very popular among Golf GTI owners. I have PSS right now, they have wiggled around on me once or twice in the wet at freeway speeds but not enough to really be a concern. |

Initially I wanted to get F1A2 but then i got a great deal for PSS so I ended up with PSS!! With yesterday's rain for those that is in sydney city! I must say grip was great but then again when it's raining i always respect the road!
Dry grip is great!! Wet grip not so compared to dry but I would say much better than my RFT RE050A! I too had the same concern before I change to non-fat but after i did it I was happy and did not look back! Even on 40PSI non-rft feels much more comfortable compared to 38psi RFT.

Michelin PSS is the answer.
I don't know about them aqua planing. Any tyre will be crap in the rain if you drive like a loon or don't have them at the right pressure. I've done track days in pouring rain and not a problem (ie. well above "approaching triple digit speeds").

I'm getting a quote on some tyres for the rears on my 135 tomorrow, I was looking at some Bridgestone RE002's or some Federal Evo's. I know a guy who knows a guy.... so I can hopefully get a pretty good price if you were interested.
The tyres will most likely be 245/35 or 235/35 18's btw |

I recently bought a set of Pirelli P Zero RFT. They're a major improvement over the Dunlop SP01's, which tramlined badly and crashed loudly even over cats eyes! The Pirelli's do neither, grip really well in the wet (as I just found out over this weekend) plus the dry, and are as comfortable as a proper tyre.
Worth checking out! |

I went from the Potenzas to the P Zeros on the 125's 18" and also preferred them.
An option if you want to stay on RFT.

I just got quoted $250ea for Federal 595 RS-R's. They are a bit cheaper than the rest but if you do a quick search on them, they perform nearly as good as tyres at twice the price point.

I have the 595RSRs and they're a pretty good tyre. Kind of noisy but with good levels of grip and a progressive breakaway with good feedback. I'm planning on going with RS3s for my next set though. Similar in price and they seem to get rave reviews.

I'm running 595RSR's too, good tyre for the price (about $280 RRP fitted in Perth).
