You say "I did cut the key".
Is this the original key that came with the car? If not, is it a new key that you bought online and cut yourself, or is it a replacement key from BMW? If its not the original key for the car and it is something you got from some source other than BMW, like eBay for example, it may not work properly with the car.

If you have not tried your second key yet, then do so and see if it works. This will narrow down where the problem is. If you have tried your second key, and still having the issue and you are unsure if the key is in a good, charged condition then start using that key on some longer drives so that the car can charge it up. Then see if you can narrow this down to a key or system issue.
Yeah, simple suggestion but...you never know. |

Did you program the key fob? If after a long time of no use, the fob battery drains and has to be reprogrammed. (I had this with my 2nd key) didn't do squat except for unlock the door physically. I had to charge it for a few hours (nice excuse for a drive) and then had to program the key from the other key. Works prefect after that... There is a link here on zpost somewhere for programming the key from the other key...
Also, it just came to my mind, if that is your only key... Not sure how you would go then, cos you need a working key to make the other key re-learn...

That procedure for re-learning/programming the key, did u do it over your right shoulder if u are sitting in the car? I know it sounds stupid, but there was something in the book when I did it that the key had to be in a certain position when programming..
This is for a left hand drive car ofcourse. Try it, u ain't got nothing to loose. |

If you only have one key to the car I think you should RUN very quickly to the dealer and get another (then you can figure out if you have a key or system problem). Once you have two keys, you'll never need the second one.
But having only one key you've certainly got Murphy's law knocking on your door. |
