any one opti-coat their car?

I didn't see much mentioned about opti-coat ... I read a quite a bit in other car forums...just curious if any Z4 owners opti-coated their car by pro detailer? I about to have my car done in the next week or so. Are you happy with the results? For those that don't know... it's a clear coat sealer and adds a layer of protection... supposedly you don't have to wax your car anymore for few years...just wash and that's it.... the dirt and stuff comes off real easy. Anyone in SoCal had their cars done that can recommend their detailer? I've see prices from $500 to $800 including full detail/polish.

I am in talks right now with Tuan from Glossworksla ...problem is I need to leave my car the whole day and it's about 40 miles away...so kind of a drag since it's my only car.

22PLE is another product similar to Opti-Coat.

I'm looking into it and will probably be doing my 1 Series soon. Typical protection is 18-24 Months before you start to see it degrade.

I just got my 135 opti coated few days ago. Can't obviously comment on long term usage but I don't have time to detail my car every month so this was perfect for me. One application of OC and then going forward hand wash with spray wax to get it looking like day 1. If you're a low maintenance guy when it comes to detailing, seems like a good option. I even followed up with a clear bra.

3002 how much did they charge you? I'm quoted $600... I like low maintenance...more time driving less time washing and buffing.

Shop around, I've seen quotes as low as $350, high as $700. Depends on how much you need to polish, mine was minimal because car was brand new but from what I've read, OC alone is around $2-250. Factor in the detail and that's another $200 so maybe $450 all in? Just pick a guy who's familiar with OC, the stuff is really finicky so you need an experienced detailer.

My car after OC was applied.

That color is similar (not exact) to my Galaxy Blue BRZ. I really thought about getting a 135i...there's so many mods for that car...but even stock it should be fun to drive. Congrats on the new car.

The detailer in Rosemead, CA is an authorized detailer for OC (professional) not opti-coat 2.0 (consumer version). I thought $600 was kinda high, but I also got about same price with another high end detailer...sadly they are all far away from where I live. I have another person from Sunset Detailing that does the consumer version of OC that has been mentioned a lot in the non BMW forums. He's mobile so I may go with him if Tuan in Rosemead doesn't have time for me.

I plan on having a local pro detailer/buddy opticoat my car soon. He said it'd be around $300, IIRC, including prep/polish/etc.

I plan to do my Interlagos Blue car myself. A friend of mine did his black Mercedes and it tuned out really good. This was his first time and said it was pretty easy after reading all the tips about DIY. The product cost about $70 and could easily do small cars. The key is to polishing the car to get all the swirls out first, then get all the polishing lubricants off the paint before applying the product.

I hear opticoat is kind of a PITA to deal with. You need to apply it the right thickness and then polish it out so it's level/glossy. And if you mess up, it's not as simple as washing it with Dawn or whatever, you actually have to polish the opticoat back out. Or something like that. I'd be too scared to attempt it on my own, but I have zero polishing/detailing skills.

Your friend is talented then because black cars are notoriously difficult when it comes to applying OC

I did it and would highly recommend - a quick wash and it looks great! Of course like mentioned it is only as good as detail done before applying the opti coat

I had it done on my white e36 M3 and my montego 3.0si coupe. It's nice but, honestly, for the price I'd rather just have it waxed a couple times a year. Within about a year on both cars there were clearly spots where it wasn't applied correctly and wasn't performing as well. It's great on wheels but again, I don't mind popping those off a couple times a year for a front and back wax. It looked great on the white car but I had to take the blue back three times to address hazy areas. It was a huge pain. I don't drive my car enough to bother with Opticoat again, it doesn't ever really get dirty. The one big plus is that it's a layer like some extra clear coat so if it does get light scratches you just buff down the opticoat and reapply. As for people DIYing Opticoat, its my understanding that they don't sell it to consumers because the car has to be prepped just right or it doesn't look or perform well.

Kgolf31 opti-coat 2.0 is the consumer version and not (professional version) as opti-coat or opti-guard. I called on another mobile detailer that details Bugatti and such and he was asking $400 for opti-coat...that's wash, clay, polish, and then opti-coat whole car minus windows... I'm waiting to get more info

That's a really good price I think.. Looked up one detailer in my area and he was charging 350$ for the opti-coat alone (on top of the cost for the detail)

Out of curiousity, was the Jean Claude at Detailed Design? I know he's great at what he does.

I know that 22PLE exist, but not too many folks talk about from the forums I read.

BTW, my BRZ is being detailed this Friday...I'll let everyone knows how it turns out...if it works as good as it should....I wish I had done this on my BSM MR because it's a pain keeping black car clean.

Ended up buying Dodo Juice Supernatural Infinity Nano Paint Sealant from detailedimage

http://www.detailedimage.com/Dodo-Ju...P855/50-ml-S1/

I'll be sure to give a write-up of application and durability testing when I do my cars

Kgolf31... Opti-coat (pro) has been commented lasting over 5 years through various forums... the only problem is that it's very difficult to apply and layer correctly, hence it's for pro detailers...the 2.0 version is for consumer it's easier to applied, but not the same strength.

It's expensive to pay $500 for a detail and opti-coat, but I bought over $100 of Zaino and I have used, but not enough... doing a 2 day detail or even 1 day detail is not fun for me... I hope opti-coat is really just wash and not have to wax...though wax is not an issue to apply over opti-coat.

Your dodo juice is applied every 2 years at $160 ($80 and $80)... so $200 for detail and $300 for polish and opti-coat...I think it's a better value..again if it does live up to the hype.
