Do you want one for track use or for looks?
We've seen a few break or twist when they actually had to be used. I recommend this one: BMW Tow Hook

$95 for a tow hook? Man I need to get in on that business.
Surely there are cheaper options out there. Tow hooks aren't exactly a marvel of engineering. You could probably make one in your own garage. My dad's 911 came with one like this: bit.ly/16rV6xw. It's all of $14. Update: Found this one on ECS, http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E46-M3-S54_3.2L/ES187126/. $20, much more like it. Last edited by 02rsxpilot; 08-06-2013 at 10:45 AM.. |

Well found a local shop that sells the strap kind it fits perfect on the back bumper, but the front bumper has to come off the opening is to small to just push and twist it on

The strap won't screw in the front opening with the bumper on. You could screw it in with the bumper off and install the bumper over the top and just pull it through when you need to. |

My car came with one in the trunk that looks exactly like the one ECS is selling. You could probably pick up a second one at a junk yard for cheap, paint them both neon red and be done with it.
Are the stock ones legal for track day use?

I can't imagine any reason they wouldn't be legal for a track day. My club doesn't require tow hooks but it's not a bad idea especially at Laguna Seca with all the gravel pits. |

The $95 one looks really nice, but if you're trying to maintain a budget (cough cough furloughs) you can't beat "already in the trunk."
I just wondered if some regulating bodies might have a problem with protruding metal tow hooks. Some require tow straps. Less dangerous to other cars and track workers.

Well OP hasn't even stated if these are actually for the track or for show...
I hope these are for track, and only get mounted when running on said track. I hate people who leave tow-hooks on their car when it is clearly a street car and never seen a track |

I was just reading that for track use most places are making you use the strap kind because the metal ones can break/cause damage to your own/others cars.

I just checked my tool kit. Had the car 9 months and didn't even know I had a tool kit. I think I'll get a strap anyway. Not racing till next year anyway.
