Unfortunately, when I was in the desert, I was virtually by myself in my F10. I didn't see a soul for most of the stretch, almost until the end. Otherwise I would have definitely done some rolls.
Also, I would like to point out a few things that I learned about the F10 M5 and in general. 1. I LOVE the F10 M5! God, on the open road the car is such a freakin BEAST! I was averaging about 130mph on the straight flat stretches and got up to the limiter several times. Even at those speeds the M5 just pulls and pulls and pulls. There is still SO much thrust. It makes me truly wonder how this car would be without the limiter. I have almost no doubt that this is a 200+ mph car. I was crusing in 4th and 5th mostly and the sound of the Full Straightpipes at 140mph was SO intoxicating. That's why I keep telling people who think that the S85 V10 is the only engine that ///M has ever produced to have an exotic intoxicating exhaust note, are completely wrong about the S63tu Twin Turbo V8. The F10 M5 is every bit as visceral and bespoke as the old V10, it's just that many people will never know, and I think it's a shame. 2. Also another board member/#m5army soldier, has recently combined the AMS Catless Downpipes with the Akrapovic Full Exhaust system and I got to hear it this past weekend at Targa Trophy and boy does it sound GOOD!!!!!! It definitely has a unique sound and in my opinion sounds better than the Eisenmann Race combined with the AMS Catless Downpipes, which had such a clean deep note to it, where as the Akrapovic with the catless downpipes sounds a little more exotic and has a sharper tone to it. It also doesn't sound as raw and loud as my setup, but it is so very good. 3. Temperature Variation: On the drive home from Vegas yesterday we took the same desert road back to Cali, rather than sit in traffic for 4 hours on the 15S. It so happened that a major thunderstorm system was moving through Vegas just as we were leaving. When we were just on the outskirts of Vegas we had an outside air temperature of 77F. 45 mins later when we reached the barren desert the highest temp we experienced was 113F. Then when we got back down to San Diego to the coast where I live, it was 68F. I can tell you that I definitely definitely felt a shift in performance throughout the large changes in temperature. The M5 felt much more responsive at the lower temperatures, but even at temps as high as 113F at 130mph the M5 still felt like it had PLENTY of power and torque. I think the coolers and the cooling systems in the F10 M5 is the cars greatest attribute. I think it truly allows the least amount of heat soak/power loss due to high temperatures. Even while I was cruising at ludicrous speed in that insane 113F dry heat, the M5 just continued to pull so very hard. 4. I don't know if it was due to temperatures or what, but one of my friends who drives an E60 M5 did multiple pulls on the desert road with a variety of cars and he got all of it on video. He raced this one 2013 GTR, which I believe was stock from about 70mph to 180mph. His mods on his E60 M5 were light and all he had was an exhaust, RPi Air Scoops, BMC Air Filters, and he just got the RPi Oil Cooler installed the week before Targa. He beat the GTR! By about 160mph you can see in the video he is passing it and by 180mph he was car lengths ahead of the GTR. Unfortunately he only uploaded his video to Facebook and not Youtube or Vimeo so I can't post it here. But if this proves anything to me, it proves that the GTR's are not that fast. I've seen the video with my own eyes and even I had a hard time believing it, but there it was. Oh and the temp was probably somewhere between 100F and 110F. Awesome! Well, just looking forward to everyone elses photo's and videos to be posted here.

Here are some pics from Saturday and my drive home Sunday through the Eastern and Southern Mojave desert. I agree with Dave, at 110 the car did feel slightly sluggish, but it had no problems with spirited driving

Great post guys and thanks for the video M54ccibo.
I will say it is painful to watch the cars deal with the egress on this lot exit to the road. I listened as several of them scrape. Would it have been to much for the event organizers to have picked a better parking lot or put down a temporary plate for the day? So sad... |

14.9 MPG. I'd say roughly 33% each normal/moderate/hard driving. Maybe a little more or less but that is fairly accurate
