Jet Black Question
I have an opportunity on M3 allocation. The dealer has the car currently spec'ed out Alpine White/Black. The allocation is set to go into production any day so the ability to change the color very very short. Red, Grey and Blue are out for me so I am left with Jerez or Jet black and Alpine or Mineral White. Due to time constraints Individual colors are not an option. My heart says Jet but I realize it will be a pain in the ass to maintain. I have never owned a white car. I am hoping someone can help me out with this question...
My VO 1M is about 50% covered with Expel Ultimate which I am satisfied with. Has anyone here applied Expel or the like on Jerez or Jet and if so, does this help eliminate some of the swirl/maintenance issues with black? Expel does have a clearcoat so I would think that it probably wouldn't make a difference...but at the same time Expel is also "self-healing". I have no experience with PPF on black. If no one has experience I'll give Expel a call tomorrow...but I'd rather hear it from you folks here. Thanks for reading... |

I have had 3 jet black m3 cars and my current e90 2009 still looks new. Yes black is hard to maintain, but my car sits outside and always is coated with Collinite for durability. For the price it is the best, longest lasting wax I have ever used and has kept the car looking awesome. I also have a first coat of Rejex as a good sealant. |

Mineral white was my first choice outside of individual colors

I just went from jet black to alpine white and thank god I did. Bmw Jet black is so soft that just looking at it can scratch it!
I have always had black cars but BMW jet black (while the nicest color IMO) is the worst black car I've ever owned. It wasn't a color, it was a hobby! I'll miss its looks, but it was hell. If I could have got mineral white, I would have. I saw do mineral! White looks great on the M3. GL with your decision!

Don't have any feedback about films/sealants etc etc. But I would strongly suggest mineral white. It's beautiful in person, and accentuates the M3 lines much better in my opinion

I am on year 9 with Jet Black M3s and love it, no better color IMO. I hand wash my car and generally look after it, but drive year round rain/snow/shine. My car is just about to cross the 60k mile threshold and looks fantastic.

If I could do it all over again, I would do Mineral White. My Le Mans looks dirty in about 5 minutes, so I couldn't imagine what Jet Black would do to my sanity.

Thanks everyone for the input. Talking to Expel wasn't much help. Talking to my Expel installer was. He made the case that the PPF would obviously protect from surface issues on the OEM paint, and the self healing property of the film "should" correct issues with the PPF's clearcoat. I'm still about 50/50 with Mineral and Jet but will have to decide it tomorrow if it isn't too late.
Thanks again... |

i currently own a jet black e92. i was thinking about other colors to consider if i renew my lease with another e92 m3.....and every time i end up realizing the jet black just looks so awesome esp on the e92's. that crisp true black is awesome, iam not a huge fan of the jerez and how it changes color with light.
i will mention though that i struggle to keep the car clean and its painful to see swirls on bright sunny days. the jet black is UNFORTUNATELY so delicate and super soft/thin as someone else already mentioned...id still go for the Jet Black though!!! |

my previous car was a jet black and currently own a Jerez black, both are beautiful colors but jet black was harder to maintain, I have my car protected with swissvax blau weiss and always looks shiny like the first day I got it, check it out
