Ignition Coil Part Numbers

Anybody try and buy ignition coils lately?

Looks like there's 2 lines of evolution:
12137551260 is superseded by 12131712219 (old news)
12137594938 is superseded by 12137594937

ECS shows either the 12131712219 or the 12137594937 as valid replacements for an ///M.
But if you have a link saved to the "Genuine BMW" 12131712219, it says it's superseded by 12137594937.

I don't think ECS's picture of the 12131712219 is correct. Looks more like a 12137551260.
Based on what I've seen on other sites, both the 12131712219 and the 12137594937 are all black, and look identical.
I have in my possession a 12137594938, and it has the grey shaft like the 12137551260.
I think it's what Tischer sent me when I ordered qty. 1 12131712219 as a spare, but their invoices don't include part numbers, so I can't be sure what I ordered a year ago.

Was wondering of the 12137594937 is yet another reliability upgrade.

Searching backwards from part number to application, it looks like:
12137594937 current for non-M
12131712219 current for M

Just checked and I have the original 12137551260 (ERA 12144) installed.
Now I'm confused about which are the newer style, all black molded, or gray taped.

Such an adventure

Here's a clue.
Maybe Bosch changed from "gray taped" to "sealed all black" some time between February 9, 2012 and June 4, 2012.
Best I can figure, both are Bosch 00124, BMW 12131712219.
Wish I knew which I was going to get if I order them.

Here goes nothing

Oddly, on their website Bosch doesn't claim to make coils for any late model BMWs. A search of their site for 00124 comes up empty.

I posted the question on Amazon:
"Bosch changed from "gray taped" to "sealed black" between February and June 2012. Can anyone verify the construction of these?"
and got the reply:
"The ones I purchased last winter were sealed black.".

Unfortunately, the question/answer is associated with all 11 sources of supply listed on Amazon.
Oh, well. I ordered these. Lets see what I get. Gotta love the price.

Received my Bosch 00124, BMW 12131712219 coils from Amazon.
Came from 2 different "fulfillment centers" in 2 different shipments on 2 different days, but all have the same Feb 2013 date codes, and are the all black sealed style.
I'm pleased. Was about 1/2 the price they would have been from Tischer or ECS.

Just curious- are you having issues with your coils or are you just buying backups in case of an issue? Have not replaced any of mine so far.

Due for a valve adjustment in probably 3 months. Car will have nearly 100k miles by then.
Thought it was a good time to replace them.
And every time I take them out after at least 10k miles, the #1 coil spark plug connector and top of the spark plug are covered in grey dusty stuff. Might be ablated graphite from arcing inside the coil.
