VT2-625 KIT

I am Planning to upgrade to a VT2-625 and wanted to know how many of you guys who have the higher hp supercharger kits (VF620,VT2-625 etc) have upgraded their rod bearings to the latest bmw spec. I have a feb 2009 build e92 M3.

Rod bearing replacement is part of proper preventative maintancence so to answer your question do a search as I remember few posts regarding this exact issue

2009 DCT. Purchased 18months ago with 18k on it. 535 kit went on immediately. Approx
5k on it with 100 quarter mile passes. Late last year went to 625, another 100passes and 5k on it and broke record. Over the winter went to 650 and still runs like the day I bought it. If your doing rod bearings you might as well build the motor. If its not broken don't fix it!

Rod bearing replacement costs around 1500 to build a motor it's about 15000.
You car has low miles on it so doing the ros bearings is not necessary. If your pushing 90k plus It is recommended to prevent a possible engine blow out.

What differences have you found between the 525 to 625 then to 650. ?

But rod bearings never wear out, they always just have oil touching them, lol. Kidding, you have good justification here I believe.

I wish it was $1500. The quote I have gotten with labor plus parts is min $2500.

Look for another shop. Parts are 400 and labour is around 8 hours

Chances are this will be most shops first time at this. There must be a reputable BMW focused service center that has been in business for a good amount of years and is up to date technology wise. Start asking BMW drivers with a bit older cars were they go.

This is true the text book way. To harness the motor and drop subframe will require some tricks of the trade. Prices are going to vary greatly on this job unless it is done by the book.

I would consider either Gintani or EAS, depending on where you are. Both are great and I am sure are more than capable of this job. Plus they have access to OEM BMW parts and have reasonable shop charges.

If you do enough searching, you'll come up with many different stories...most of them wrong or grossly misinformed. So I'll see if I can help you set the record straight.

For starters, if BMW has never changed specs on the rod bearings for this engine from the time they started to make it. So by definition, there is no such thing as an upgraded rod bearing to "latest bmw spec." You already have the latest spec. It's an easy check at www.realoem.com to confirm this for yourself.

Rod bearings are not like a v-belt or brake pads. You'll never take your car into the dealer and hear them say "it's time to replace your rod bearings with this visit." So no, replacing rod bearings is never a maintenance item.

All are in Los Angeles area. All can do this job. RD Sport is in 949 and makes S65 stroker motors. Maybe you can take it there and learn about the strokers while you're at it.

I assume you do not have a supercharger. Why do you give misleading advice. there is a reason why ESS vf and aa advice on rod bearings replaceents for cars running 600 + hp supercharger kits.

Vac may have slower moving people That could be a job estimated time not the actual time. All shops have to make money. I'm starting to be grateful for my local BMW shop
