Did an 11.9 quarter mile today
Rob at Strasse Forged invited me to a drag racing event. So I went to PBIR for today.
Was a great experience. managed to get an 11.9 second quarter time with my average times being around 12.2. This is with a stock car, with Eisenmann axleback. I still have the carbon filter in the airbox since I can't figure out how to remove the screws. Not bad time. Could do better. A few takeaways: 0) I am really bad at launching the car. I wait for green then press the accelerator. Clearly need to work on that. 1) I was having creep when reving the engine in launch control which prevented me from using it at all. Did anyone experience this? 2) I missed most of my green lights fumbling with launch control because it takes so long to set up. Really is useless. 3) I got the best time in MDM and D3 with everything set to Sport+ and just flooring it. 4) Without the launch control the car doesn't seem to let you hold revs in D3. So I had to launch the car from idle which is far from optimal I think. 5) I tried running 100 Octane for a few runs but it did not help at all - added 3/10s to the time. Car seems to prefer 93. Car 32 is my M5. Some Pics and Video courtesy of Rob at Strasse:

I also agre that if u are not used to Launch Control or have minimal experience with it, it is useless...
other than that, looks like u had a fun day there |

I can tell you the launch control it hard to get timed on the drag strip. With the moving forward to trigger each step. However in my e60 M5 I did finally get pretty good at that and letting it roll in neutral but it took 10 or so goes to get good at it and a few disquals. However when you nail it, it is amazing, I got my best times with it.

Exactly. It should be a mode. If they wanted to make it less easy to select, they should have just had an activation via iDrive selection.

With my X5M I was able to get within 0.1sec my LC times by just brake stalling and shifting manually. Some practice and you won't need it. Pretty excited here for the track to open. One more month...

If your M2 button is free, put all the settings in there, hit M2 twice and you are ready to launch

Glad you joined us yesterday, you'll get to learn the car more as you practice. As for launching, I'll show you how I launch the M3 next time I see you as I too used to just launch without revving it up. (After a few seconds it goes back to idle)

1. Before lining up get into launch mode. (Try to get to the line before your opponent so you can get an idea of when the drag lights start signaling)
2. Once you line up, hold the brake with your left foot and keep your right foot over the accelerator. 3. As the opponent lines up, start accelerating while holding the brake. (You ONLY get about 2-3 seconds of rev time so try to time it right.) 4. Once you see the second amber, let go of the brake pedal as you're already accelerating from step 3 and voila all hell breaks loose LOL! (There's a small delay when using launch control so try to time it right) If I was you, I'd give it a few tries on **ahem** an empty 'track' and get the hand of it as it's a bit tricky getting the timing right.
