What would you estimate my 2012 135i is worth?

Hi Everyone,

I'm considering buying a house and so I really should sell my second car. I bought it in Dec 2011 with around 6700 miles on it. The car has been on at least two long road trips and it now has around 13000 miles on it. Exterior color is Marrakesh brown and interior is coral red. Has the convenience package, cold weather package, premium package 2, DCT, navigation, HK, I believe it has active steering, would have to find the build sheet to verify, I put the blackline lci tail lights in. I had the Laser Interceptor laser jammer installed and custom mounted the switch and my radar detector remote in the dash. Also has Ohlins coilovers, carbon fiber hood, berk dp and berk street exhaust, JB3, 19" advan rz wheels, afe intake. I have performance side skirts and a carbon fiber front lip which I've not installed yet. I'm likely forgetting a few things as well.

Anyone give me an estimate on what a solid private party price would be?

It's not been driven in the winter, this is my secondary car. Wouldn't be selling if I didn't want to finally settle down and buy a house.

I'm attaching a few pics. They are older pics, I now have center caps installed for the rims. I get comments all the time on the car and I'm really torn on selling it. I've changed my mind at least 20 times so far.

Interested in hearing your thoughts!! I can try and get some new pics this weekend if anyone is interested.

Ryan

$29 trade $31 private if you lose the hood etc. You might get more but its not easy to sell a modified car because a dealer will price it low & most of the people who might like it might have trouble getting the money.

People with the money will be concerned about a modified car because you can't transfer the warranty.

Honestly I think the original color combo and mods will hurt resale...common colors like white or black sell best. I dont know MSRP for that car but expect to lose at least 20-25% off that...

Warranty is intact. Magnuson-Moss Act would help me with most warranty claims. It would be a relatively simple process to replace the downpipe which would be about the only thing the dealership could really get upset about. People either love or hate the color combo, I get a lot of looks that's for sure. If I go to the car wash people ask to take pics. The hood took a while to grow on me (previous owner had put it on) but to each their own. I had at one time considered getting it painted body color.

They always do when a new model comes out.

Values drop when you drive off the lot, when the new model comes out, and when the next new model comes out. Occasionally if it is a good/limited/important car, values will then go back up. Certainly won't be the case for the 135i though as it was mass produced/will be very expensive out of warranty with 100k+ miles.

I agree with Bear, besides the cosmetic looks you should remove the JB, downpipe, and intake if you plan on getting a decent private party resale.

Also the Magnuson-Moss Act is tough to defend once you go catless. By manufactures specs cars are not designed to run without a catalytic converter let alone with a non BMW tune. Also any damage to suspension components is also tough to defend with coilovers.

Without power mods $35-$37k and another $700 if you sell the power mods.

I think that $35-$37k is very optimistic: I am trying to sell my 2013 135i Convertible with just 1,600 miles and in-service date of 11/2012 and in perfect condition...it has been in the classifieds here for a couple months or so and I have periodically dropped to where it is now at $42k and it is still for sale.

I'm sure demand in each state will vary, but as another data point for what it's worth:

I watched a guy here in CA try to sell his 2012 135i convertible for a couple of months. It was 15 months old with 7,000 miles, loaded with every possible option and a sticker of $53,550. He started at $44K, eventually lowered it to $38.5K with no luck. The car was not detailed and could have been presented better, but still drove as new and had no significant flaws. When his new car came in (needed something bigger), he ended up trading it in to the BMW dealer and got $35K. Very painful depreciation hit, and I felt sorry for him. The BMW dealer detailed and serviced it, listed it for $42K and it was sold in two weeks. Easy money for the dealer, who probably got about $40-41K for it.

To the OP: Marrakesh brown and coral red is a rare combo. It will obviously not appeal to everyone nor be as easy to sell as more standard colors, but if you can find the person who really wants that combo you should be able to get top dollar.

Best of luck to those of you selling.

I say in stock form around $34K, the color combo and the lack of sport/M pkg which is requested by most buyers of this car are gonna kill its value.
