Paint people, please chime in.

Hello fellow members,

I would like some paint guys' opinion on plasti-dip. I've heard many different stories on pasti-dip and vinyl, I'm not sure on what to believe.

I have a AW E90, I would like to "plasti-dip" it to a darker color. I'm planning on ripping it off around Sept-Nov anyways.

Will it be bad for the original AW paint?

Is vinyl better or plasti-dip better?

Thanks.

PS:I'm sorry, I know this is like a "BMW vs Benz" sort of question, but in this situation, I hope plasti-dip is the BMW, the obvious better choice.

Plasti-dip won't hurt your paint; removing it may since you'll likely need to use some chemicals like TarX and some elbow grease... if you're careful you should be fine. Neither vinyl nor pd is particularly durable; you'll get some chips/tears etc. PD is likely cheaper, and easier to DIY, just make sure to tape off everything you don't want to get dipped. Practice on some scrap too; it's easy but after 3-4 tries you'll have a much better feel for it.

Pd or vinyl isn't bad for your paint. Vinyl is more durable just ask the plenty of forum members here who have some type of vinyl on their cars. Since it seems you only will have this wrap on your car for a short amount of time just stick with pd as it will be a much cheaper option. I don't see how it can harm your paint because you just tear it off. If there are pieces or spots left over, which I don't think there should be, just use some detailing products specifically adhesive removers
