Switching dealers mid problem...

I am into an extended warranty. I want to take my car to a new dealer to see if they can fix a misfire and SES light problem. The original dealer had the car three times so far and has not been able to correct the problem despite doing thousands of dollars worth of work... fuel pump, coil pack etc. The latest episode was this morning where the car misfired again, stalled and ses light back on. If the new dealer finds that the problem persists because of bad installs by the original dealer do I have to go back to them? If I do have to go back to them will I get charged for diagnostics from the new dealer? Also, will the history of this problem be in the new dealers system or will I have to bring all receipts and so on?

You could take it to any dealership and shouldn't have to pay a $1

If it is not factory warranty, one dealer can not see the others service history. The only exception would be if either a: you provide it, or b: they ask the original dealer for them via mail or fax. You will be charged diag fees at the new dealer since they are independently owned.

Thanks. So I guess I'm stuck bringing it back for a fourth try.

I have cpo and went to a new dealer for misfires.
When they found out that I had just had turbos done at a differ dealer, they said they Connor touch the car if there is a possibility of it being related to the previous dealers work as the warranty claim would get refused and the dealership would be stiffed on the funding for the work done.

I received crapy service here at our local BMW dealership on several occasions ... my punishment to the local dealership is I will never ever purchase another car from them and drive 310 KM (193 Miles) round trip to get good service done on my car.

As for your warranty issue or the extended one ... I would just take it to another dealership why deal with them when you have 3 poor experiences behind you?

I'd like to but it's doubtful that a new dealer will touch the car when a different dealer has already done warranty work on the same issue. I have to make a lot of calls tomorrow and find out. All dealers around here are closed on Sunday.

Considering these threads:

It seems like you are having a lot of problems with this car man, sorry to hear it. I hope they finally can fix all these issues before your warranty is up.

are you misfiring on multiple cylinders or just one ?
If plugs , fuel pump and coils are out of the question.
Carbon build up on intake valves can cause this , as well as vanos solenoid on its way out .

The invoice said all cylinders. The fuel pressure sensor was done too. Guess they'll address the solenoid next.

Hopefully they already contacted the regional BMWNA tech, otherwise they are wasting theirs and your time
