Done with BMW CCA

I'm done.

I had to make the decision to renew in November, and decided to do it. My first issue of Roundel showed up, and, as usual, had some whiner groaning about the run flat tires on his M3. Yep, uh-huh.

That magazine, and the people who belong, are a bunch of older people who do nothing but whine and lament the good old days. It's constant and predictable. Even the tech guy cries constantly.

Cars are 1000 times better than they used to be. Yeah, they had dipsticks. They had spares. You could nap in the engine bay. Get over it. You're living in this time period. I guarantee you that you could not put 100k miles on your 60's muscle car without some serious maintenance and work.

Don't get me wrong, I look back to some things of the past (80's rock for example). But, cars have gotten better, safer, more powerful, more fuel efficient, etc. Yes, they're a lot more expensive. So is everything. Sample the owners on this forum. I'm sure you guys and gals would take a big pay cut so whatever you do for a living in terms of goods and services would be less costly. Yeah, right.

This forum is much better than Roundel and the BMW CCA. Sure, there are the d-bags whose cars have no cats and straight exhausts who laugh at their neighbors complaints. You immature people know who you are. But, overall, the folks who post are normal, respectful, interesting people who love their m3 for what it is, not what it was or what they think their '67 Mustang was.

Enough hate. I'm done with CCA though.

Seems like folks have to be just the right age for you to agree with them. Somewhere around yours I'm guessing.

Looks like I'm an immature, abnormal, disrespectful, uninteresting d-bag. And just when I was feeling good about myself...

Um...OK

Apparently you did not like the issue of Roundel you received.

Try meeting the people in your chapter? Go to the next HPDE? Old guys with nice cars are cool; typically have attractive daughters and a boat or two.

Or just view your membership fee as a way to get a $1000 discount off your next BMW and the parts discount.

CCA is cool.

Agreed, I don't read the Roundel but I have made many life long friends through the club over the past 4 years and the dues paid for themselves with the rebate on my E92. Not to mention I'm a better driver thanks to their track schools.

In other words, don't knock it till you try it.

+1.

Plus I have met amazing people from very diverse backgrounds whom I would have probably never crossed path with were it not for the BMWCCA.

The club is much more than Roundel. Which I enjoy BTW.

The vast majority on this forum bitch and moan about the exact same things. Many posters lament the purity of the e30 M3 having never actually driven one. It is human nature to complain and change to the status quo is always something to latch on to. Either ignore the bitching, or continue to bitch about the bitching.

At least on this forum you can sell your old Air Force Ones.

Oh and I am a life long member of CCA, which is why I have this license plate.

Being a member of the BMW CCA is a requirement to participate in autocross (at least in San Diego), so I take it you aren't doing that? Roundel is just a bonus that I take no more than 5 minutes skimming through when I receive it.

Throw the magazine away and go drive.

Another d-bag here, actually a LIFE TIME d-bag.
OP is just reading what he wants to see in Roundel. I just read an article where the writer GUSHED over the i8. He had previously loved the 650i a couple months ago, and considered trading in his E60 M5 for it. He also makes makes the M5 dance around the track between instructing at track events, but then I'm willing to bet you've never been to a CCA track event- you're too cool for those d-bags.

Good comments. For those of you who suggested attending some events, that's fair.

I retract some of what I said. I will sample an event or two and go from there.

Yeah, it sort of is an age thing too. But I didn't say "remember the good old days . . ."

And c'mon, part of the fun of the internet is complaining.

I read the article about purchasing a new M3 with run-flat tires and laughed myself. WTF?

To the OP: Your whole post is a big wail, whinning about whinning. Please don't reconsider. The biggest and by most accounts best international car club in the world will be fine, regardless. Roundel has published opinions just like yours. That's all they are, opinions. Besides, what would life be like without the option of lamenting the loss of things that used to be better?

Actaully the lack of a dipstick was never a big deal to me and never understoor the incessant whining about it. To be fair to Roundel, they publish just about every letter.

My view points on the lack of a dipstick has changed. I did simple drain and fill. Added the usual 7L of 10w-60. Started the car, drove it around the block, and came back to check the oil level. It said to add 1 qt. I add a liter, drive it and come back. It says to add another qt. Odd? But the computer wouldn't lie. I add another 1L...then it says over max! DAMN! So I drain out about 1.5L...computer says add 1 qt. I add .5 qt...computer says add 1 qt. I add another .5 qt...OVER MAX! WTF!

Wish I had joined a year before deciding to purchase my M3. But then again, I didn't know if I was gonna be out on the streets or be able to afford the M3 a year from then. I plan on joining before booking the 2 day M school.

I was going to comment about the run-flat thingy but yeah saying bye bye to the CCA is a little harsh. For serious though, why did they publish that garbage "letter"? Someone is a real ding-dong over at Roundel but the idiot who bought 1 run flat for his M3 is the bigger dummy.

I also joined to take advantage of the M school discount. so the dues have already paid for themselves and then some, and whenever I buy my next BMW, I'm even further ahead, even without Roundel or the events.

I am sore about not winning the M5 in the raffle though

Supposedly, Roudel publishes all letters.

Also, the dipstick was made oil changes SUPER easy with an oil extractor.
That's the only reason I miss it.
