Drivetrain Malfunction Oil Pump Failure - with replaced oil pump

I am happy to report that as a new owner of a F10 M5 with "replaced oil pump" I just received a drivetrain malfunction error and am now waiting for BMW Roadside Assistance to transport to dealer.

Not good at all. Did you get a diagnostic message indicating the drivetrain malfunction was due to an oil pump failure?

Probably doesn't have to do with the oil pump and is unrelated. Sorry to hear of the bad news Sam. Makes me thank God, that I made it all the way past 2,000 miles while on ED without a problem. Keep us posted.

Sorry to hear Sam. You're probably one of the first that had the repair done at the VPC/VDC. Not sure if your SA showed you the work order from the VPC, but you may want to ask him to check and make sure they did it and didn't just check that it was under a "campaign." Keep us posted and glad you're safe with this happening at home.

Wish you all the best Sam - hope it is something minor/silly and not anything big.

I appreciate everyone's sentiments. I will update everyone as soon as I hear from the Service Manager, Tuesday, I hope. The way I am looking at this is trying to find the silver lining, a) the problem happened in my driveway vs the freeway so I wasnt stranded on the side of the road, b) my CA and Service Manager, of the dealership where I bought the car, Jake Sweeney BMW, jumped all over this when they found out even though they are not the ones servicing the vehicle. Props to Aatir Barlas and Dave Godbey.

Either way I feel fortunate enough to be able to have this car. Good problems to have

I assume if the car initially had a "campaign" on it while at the VPC and left with no campaign tagged to the vehicle then the pump was replaced?

My car initially was tagged and left clear thus my CA says the car is good to go.

Where can you get the specific work order done at the VPC?

Wow. That's awful. I hope it is minor.

What were the symptoms? Did you turn it off and on again? What was your fuel level?

This happened once on my previous twin turbo V8 bmw and it turned out to be just a fuel sensor issue and they replaced it.

FWIW I have a pre-replacement oil pump M5, but I have also had the drivetrain malfunction.

I had to drive it to the dealer with the engine in limp mode. Couldn't get up a small hill without losing speed.

Anyway, it was a software issue which was erroneously reading a misfire, then causing a misfire by trying to fix the misfire which it was reading erroneously. They downloaded the latest software and fixed the misfire. No drama. The only issue is that with the software update I lost the ability for the car to remember the last setting of the HUD display and it always reverts to the non-M mode. At least I don't have the drive train malfunction .....

Good luck with it and I hope yours is as simple to fix as mine was.

Fuel level was about 40% full and always have used 93 octane except when in Germany where I used 100 octane. I turned it on/off several times and the final time after the car sat idle for 30 minutes. Still had the same errors. No symptoms pre-error. I had just gotten home about five minutes earlier from driving the car with no issues. All I wanted to do was program the garage remotes into the car and voila

I had to call the service adviser at Midwestern Auto Group, not where the car was purchased, to find out if my car had even been looked at by the tech. As of 10:54am the car was still sitting where it was left by the tow service.

As you can imagine my patience is thin relating to engine/drivetrain failures of a automobile with 800 miles on the odometer and its participation in the recall. Not only does this create concern on product quality but also trepidation for the future.

I feel for you and wish you the best. This whole process has been very frustrating and very poorly handled.
