Attention Plasti-Dip Users

I recently plasti-dipped my winter rims and they came out nice . Everything was great until I sprayed some Wet Tire http://www.amazon.com/Black-Magic-BM...words=wet+tire on my tires to shine them up. Some of the spray got on the plasti-dipped rims and the Wet Tire literally started eating away at the paint. This thread is basically a heads up to anyone that has Plastic-Dip on their wheels. Beware of tire shine products as they may eat the plasti-dip paint off of your wheels. I tried to wipe it off as soon as it happened but the damage had been done. Now I have to figure out if I really feel like peeling it all off and repaint them or if I can just deal with the bubbling paint . Well, you have been warned.

I am really interested in plasti-dipping my entire car and/or wheels but it's too expensive in Australia. $25 for a can vs US$5-6 and $330/gal vs US$59...

I'd get it shipped but I don't know any freight forwarder that would sea freight *sigh*

But onto your issue, if you look up "dipyourcarcom" on YouTube they have lots of how to videos. They have a solvent that they sell which will reliquify any imperfections in dried plasti-dip.

You just rub it on the bubbled area until it smooths out completely, let it dry and respray another 1-2 coats on top. It will save you having to peel and respray.

Also for the tyre shine, maybe try and get some meguiar's endurance gel. Just rubs on with a foam applicator and no worries about over spray etc.

Good luck

Hmm plasti dipping your wheels - something was bound to happen to them sooner or later! I love plasti dip! Just get your wheels powder coated though

I was expecting them to get messed up, just not 5 minutes after installing them, lol. They are just my winter wheels so there is no need to powdercoat. I just wanted them black instead of gunmetal. I know a lot of people have plasti-dipped various parts of their car and I figured I would share my misfortune to hopefully prevent someone else from having the same thing happen to them.

Thanks, I'll look into that!

If you respray on top of the shredded bit I believe you will just be spraying over the imperfections in the coat so it will be quite noticeable.

If you smooth it down using the solvent and then spray you will have a much better finish.
