Oil Question (NOT OIL PUMP)
Fellow M5 owners,
what are your plans for oil changes (frequency with regard to time and miles) and what oil type and brand do you intend to use? Synthetic oil is a dealer dream because they can ride it way too long and do fewer changes. They say it's fine but I don't believe it. I think it's strategy, by the time the damage shows up from running bad oil the warranty period is over. ( you could probably make it 4 years on 2 oil changes and have a POS car in the end) I fear if I follow the dealer/ car warning system I will be long overdue. BMW will cover oil changes for the first few years but I think I need to supplement that with additional changes. If you are turning it in after 3-4 years it doesn't matter. I may hold it longer and want to avoid potential costly repairs from running tired oil over and over. Anyone have BMW agree to more frequent changes? Am I missing vital knowledge about this subject? Thanks LOM5 |

Synthetic is good stuff never had a problem. This is my second M car, and my 2006 650 has had zero problems only take it in for scheduled MTC. Sixth Bimmer, and never a problem no need to change now, but if you fo it more that's good too! Good luck.

If I were planning on keeping for the long haul I'd do an intermediate oil change around 7,500 miles.
