Unless you're planning on tracking the vehicle a lot...don't bother changing them. You won't notice a difference driving on teh street and anybody that says they do is full of s*&#. Most people don't know this, but you're supposed to change ss lines every 2-3 years. I know for me its on my maint schedule of things to change next year.

I've heard/read it's because the outer stainless steel braid wears away the inner brake line over time causing leaks and eventual failure.

it's not so much the braid that does it, but the dirt and sand that get caught in there.

Higher quality SS lines also use pvc outer sleeves for maximum protection against abrasion. There is actually a difference between the rubber and SS lines in terms of brake pedal feel, maximum brake pressure delivery and be able to modulate your brakes with precision. Some of the effect is not realized because of the OE calipers sliding on soft rubber bushings with excessive flex, not to mention the flex in the OE calipers. |

I have BMW performance bbk with the ss lines from turner. The difference in pedal feel is huge. I drive a 335 all the time that has stock brakes and it feels like my 1 used to. Every time I switch cars with my friend he wishes he had ss lines.
