Auto Stop Start Crap

Hi everyone,

I simply hate this feature. It's on my f10 M5 and 991 911 Carrera S. Both cars default to the on setting for this feature. If i cared greatly about fuel consumption I would have bought a Prius or a Volt!

Anyway, can the M5 be programmed to default so the start/stop is off? If so how can it be done?

Thanks,

I believe there was a thread and bulletin that the dealers can turn this off.

Somehow mine has been set to the off mode as default. For this, i am eternally grateful. Don't know how, don't care. Don't want to mess with it. So obviously there is a way

I turned mine off just by hitting the off button. Does it turn itself back on for you?

I believe that for model year 2013 the auto start-stop function remembers wherever you left it and does not return to an "on" default when starting the car. This is how my M5 operates. You should be able to get your BMW service center to make this programming change now.

This is correct

When in S mode it shouldn't be active anyway.

I'd like it to be off in the default setting. Going to get it programmed as such at the 2k break-in service

I hv a new M5 and the auto start/stop function unfortunately does not stay in the last mode set. As soon as one turns the engine off and restart, the auto start/stop function reverts to its default, and in my case, "on". Will need to explore programming this to "off" as a default.

When I picked mine last month (ED), it did start in the last mode set.

Stops the engine at lights and starts back up when lifting on the brake. All for fuel economy / green initiative.

It's a very smooth operation in the M5; not so smooth on my 328 loaner. On the 328 the whole car shakes when starting back up.

Pretty much every new European car coming out now has this "feature".

On 2012 M5 Auto Start/Stop:
1) Is set to ON by default every time you turn the engine on
2) Does not remember last setting
3) Can turn your car off in 'M mode'

Had it turn off several times in a drag race. When everyone floors the gas, my car starts waking up.

Got to love how they just threw this useless feature in without adding ///M car to the feature's logic. I'm not even certain about its side effects of turning the vehicle on/off every 1 minute with A/C, lights etc on only to "save fuel".

On the 2013 model, the car is already programmed with 'last user setting mode', once you turned it off, it will stay off ... permanently.

On the 2013 Australian specs it is still set to turn the feature on every time the car is started! It sux.

Mine is Cdn model and it comes like that right from the factory.

It's strange why the code is set differently for different countries, given it's same 2013 model year.

I do know you can ask your dealership to do the code.

In Singapore, this feature is not set to "last setting" mode. I have to get the agent to program it such.... at a fee of some US100 equivalent. And the coding takes a whole day for that matter. I hv come to the conclusion that using my index finger every time I start my M5 is a better alternative.....

This feature annoyed me like hell in Germany.

My two Mercedes rental and my M5 had this. Execution is not bad. But I am just annoyed that AC would not work well when engine is off. Made cabin stuffy very quickly.

Hated it

Hi everybody,

I am new to this board, have an Imperial Blue 6mt. Want to chime in on this subject.
Pushed the button underneath the start button and the auto start/stop system stays off.
