Affected Chassis with Oil Pump problem

I just analyzed the list of VINs that are affected with the bad oil part problem. It seems that, those chassis that begin with these numbers may be affected and may be on the list:

Chassis numbers that start with C772xxx, C773xxx, and one with chassis C774079
Also those Chassis that start with C968xxx

I have C773971 and it isn't on the list... I take European delivery on 9/27. I wonder if BMW is repairing ED cars first?

Lucky for you! My car has just finished production too and its VIN is not on the list. I wonder who the manufacturer is of those defective oil pumps and when BMW stopped using those batch that came from that oil pump manufacturer.

Priority will be going to customer cars which have already been delivered and US cars that are on the boat inbound to the US for delivery. From there they will work on the next set which includes car pending delivery. Finally its the cars on the dealers lots waiting to be sold and then cars waiting for production.

It's very likely that since they've already identified the problem with the bad batch of oil pumps the issue has been addressed and resolved with the supplier. I bet you production of new vehicles has or will resume shortly with new oil pumps.

Don't forget that majority of BMW's suppliers are within a stones throw from the main assembly plant. I remember seeing a behind the scenes look at how BMW's are made on CNBC and they mentioned that BMW works under the JIT (just-in-time) model with their suppliers.

Challenge now is to get the replacement oil pumps out to the hundreds of dealers across NA. I'm sure the supplier is working overtime to produce replacement pumps ASAP.

It's obvious that this problem didn't exist prior to July so they simply have to go back to the parts previously used to assemble the oil pumps.

BMW runs a tight ship when it comes to car assembly, they can identify a problem and get the production line moving again in no time.

I'm picking mine up (C773XXX) tomorrow at the Welt and so far it's not on the list.

Garage List
The good news is that since the more recent cars are not on the list, that means that the part is already available so our cars should be back in service soon.

My dealer called me again. Turns out I'm not on the list. They were just being cautious by letting me know. My build is so recent the problem was corrected.

Phew. For now.

For anybody else, I hope BMW takes care of you and addresses the situation promptly and professionally.

It would seem that Chassis numbers are incremental and specific production target M5's start with the same number. I assume that M5's that start with C772xxx, C773xxx and C774xxx are cars destined for the U.S. market. The Chassis that start with C968xxx must be an M6 model. Also it would seem that since C774079 is the only C774xxx on the list, that BMW stopped using the batch of "may be defective" oil pumps from that specific manufacturer after that car unit. My M5 just finished production and its Chassis number starts with C774xxx. So it is probably safe to say that any M5 Chassis that start with C774xxx (other than C774079) and up will not be getting the oil pump that may deem to be defective.

Yup the C968xxx are the M6 models. My production was due to start this week and my vehicle was like 3 from the last number on the list. So anything made at the end of last week start of this week should already have the new part. I haven't received any email on a delay as of yet.
