"Trans Range N" Fault Message??

Has anyone with MDCT seen the Trans range N error message come up before? It says "The transmission automatically shifts to P when the engine is switched off. Please contact your BMW service center as soon as possible."

The message came on for first time while I was driving at about 35 mph in 5th gear. Transmission was shifting normally and if it weren't for this message it would seem there is absolutely nothing wrong with car.

I have first available service appt scheduled for Monday - but in meantime thought I'd see if anyone knows what may have triggered this or what may be wrong. Have just over 50k problem- free miles on car but thanking lucky stars I extended my warranty (hoping its nothing major but well see).

Thanks in advance for any insight on this.

Yes, I had this problem a couple of months ago. The worry was that if the car broke down it could not be towed as it would be locked in "Park". The fix was a software issue dealt with fairly quickly by my garage here in the UK.

Interesting - so as long as the car doesn't break down then I should be fine until Monday morning (I hope)!

As someone mentioned before, probably a software issue. Have the car updated and see if that resolves the problem.

ok. i'm gonna take it into the dealership today to have it checked out. hopefully nothing drastic. i wasn't able to accelerate very well after that happened to my vehicle yesterday though. the gears felt very wrong when i was driving in D mode.

Why do you care?
Shouldn't you be worrying about when your clutch is going to expire? requiring a new 09 flywheel to go with it.

An expert on MTs?...well after passing my test, my first car was an old school Mini Cooper S with no synco on first. In that car my dad taught me to double declutch, heel and toe and shift without using the clutch. Since then I've driven 100,000s of miles in most every flavour of MTs up to and including a truck fitted with a 12 speed crash box (thats no syncro at all) which required every shift to be absolutely rev perfect. Maybe that doesn't make me an expert but I did my best to help the guy out anyway.

Instead it just seems that you like to put your sticky beak into every DCT problem thread, not to offer any help or assistance but simply to gloat.

Good grief...why does this always turn into DCT bashing.

99% of all DCT software issues have been resolved. The OP just needs a software update.
