Rattling Noises Inside
I hate to keep posting these negative threads, but this is one is driving me nuts! On certain pavements when the ride comfort isn't the best, I keep hearing 3 distinct rattling noises inside the cabin. One is coming from inside the driver side door, the other from inside the steering column, and the last from the rear passenger area. These noises are very noticeable. I doubt the dealership can identify the causes, so I'd rather not mention it and have them take things apart. I hope these don't only get worse

Is the one coming from the rear the infamous rattle caused by the coil springs ? I'm sure you would have seen the numerous threads on that. I have had that since new.
As for the other 2 rattles I can't offer anything. I have not experienced anything similar. |

I have that same noise in the driver's door - I suspect the passenger side door is doing the same. Sounds like a high tinny vibration sound on rough pavement when going >40mph or so. Don't have a clue what it is

Rattles, bad springs, no bolsters. Maybe I should just wait for MY14 (yeah right). At least there have been no electrical issues...knock on wood!

i notice similar ones. i have an occasional one that appears to be coming from the guage cluster( and i thnk specificly that little button in the lower left of the guage cluster thats really loose.
as well i get an interior vibration sound when accelerating real hard, that seems to be brought on by the high revving of the engine/exhaust itself. |

I have two , I get a squeaking noise from the front brakes when going over bumps when the brakes at not applied. (does not happen if I apply a little brake pressure . I think it has something to do with the floating rotors. I had a similar prob with my gtr's rear brakes.
I'm also getting a slight rattle from the sun roof area when the roof is closed but the shade is open. Again it doesnt happen when the shade is closed or the roof is open. I really don't want the dealer to start pulling things apart this soon. I will let them look at the front brake squeak Does anyone else get the brake squeak? you can only hear it when windows are open . |

The one near the gauge cluster may be the same one I'm hearing. It's in the steering column area from what I broadly could tell. Will have to keep an eye on it and see. |

I also hear 3 annoying 'dzzzzz' sounds on pavement roads from following:
1) Just between the top of steering wheel and below the gauge panel. If I put my hand on top of that cloth-like material it seems to stop. 2) Noise from right passenger side. Somewhere near the glovebox is where i hear this from. 3) Another same 'dzzz' sound comes from rear-right, somewhere near the top of right-rear passenger headrest. One time this sound became so loud that I had to stop, couldn't find anything and I was driving alone. So I picked up a random person on the road to help me find the sound, after he sat in the car there was no sound, it disappeared after he went out of the car too and happens rarely and in the same low 'dzzz' again. 4) This one isn't mentioned, so I wonder if others have this too. When talking over the cabin-phone (USB connected), the right passenger side speaker has a high pitchy sound when speaking and if you turn the volume up. That's the only speaker which has it (I have Hi-Fi professional audio for reference). 5) SOLVED: I had another 'dzzz' sound from armrest (unless my arm was resting on it) and I had it solved by having BMW service put silicone on loose plastic hinges. 6) SOLVED: Sunroof used to make a dry rubbing sound in summer, I think it was from rubber outline being dry when driving on slopes. Guy at car wash suggested using some oil around it and it doesn't anymore. |

I think their cars at least take a while before making noises!
Well guys I found more today. The car sat outside in the sun today for a few hours. When I got in and reversed out, I heard creaking noises all around me. The first one I noticed was on the driver door and I was able to figure out what was causing it. It was the aluminum trim! If I press on the trim, it makes all kinds of creaking noises. Seems like its not perfectly fitted to the door. Apparently, the heat makes it worse. I wonder if it baking in the sun for over 35 days at the Georgia port had anything to do with it... |

This is ridiculous. The panels in the car making creaking sounds all around, even when the car is stationery! Either I'm just unlucky or BMW's have poor build quality.

I get slight creaks from sunroof when the sun-cover is open. Some vibrations from passenger side I traced to a fairly basic issue of the seat belt buckle touching the side plastic. Main issue though is wind noise from around driver's mirror.

Well I think this is common issue among all 5 series as well.
I would source the location of the sounds and have dealer look at it. Sometimes they will get it right.
