135i modifications!

What do you guys think about performance modifications. My boyfriend has an M3 and I want to be able to beat him! Right now I can spank him at 40mph or so because my turbos kick in, but off the line I am screwed.

Also, do you think the turbo needs a waste-gate (spelling?) Thanks!

Tune+FMIC+Downpipes should even the playing field quite nicely.

If you are getting beat off the line or at low speed it probably has more to do with the limited slip differential that the M3 has and you don't, or it has better rear tires, and/or he is better controlling the launch and traction. Your engine actually has a very flat power curve and the turbos should be "kicking in" at very low RPM. Maybe you are not keeping the RPMs high enough?

Your car and all gasoline turbocharged engines already have wastegates.

You can get a tune for more power. JB4 or Cobb AP or whatever. A better wheel/tire package may help, as well as a limited slip diff. Driver mod might help as well.

IF you are having issues off the line you are probably getting some lag is all. traction control off, foot on brake, press gas until 3k RPMS, and when you take off press the gas pedal into the floor as you let off the brake (if you have an auto). Also, make sure its in sport / manual mode (DCT) and let the car shift. should be much better since you are putting load on those turbos and wont have as much, if any, lag. If yo uhave a 6speed than you and feather the clutch and do the same thing with the e-brake. A tune wouldnt hurt, too

Almost everyone on here has some kind of mods. You can go from mild to wild depending on how involved you want to get. First your turbos already have internal waste gates , so there is not much you can do there. What you are probably are experencing is turbo lag which is common on these cars in stock form. I am assuming your car is under warranty and you don't want to have to change alot of things for a dealer visit. You may want to consider having the dealer install the BMW PPK version 1 software which makes the car more responsive and gets rid of most of the turbo lag and also adds about 20 hp to your car. This in no way affects your warranty. There are many theads on here with reviews of this upgrade. You may also want to look into the Dinan stage 2 tune which would add even more power and is covered by the Dinan warranty. You didn't say what year car you have, but if it is a 08-2010 Cobb AP is very easy to install and remove when going to a dealer for service. There are several piggyback tunes available that gives plenty of power, however they involve installing in the ECU compartment and need to be removed if going in for warranty work.

The PPK is a BMW performance softwear tune for the cars ECU. Gives around20 more hp than stock. Can be done at any BMW deealer and does not effect your warranty. There is also a version 2 whitch improves cooling, but most just get the softwear.

Yep, we are confused. A stock 135 is pretty fast off the line if used properly. But if you are beating the M3 from 40mph up then it doesn't sound like your car is stock or you are not talking about the newest generation M3. Also, what year, engine version is your 135?

tune and downpipes if you're a decent driver will put you ahead of an M3.

Thanks for all of your input. I admittedly am not the best driver, however, when jumping into my boyfriend's 2011 M3 from my 2011 135i with M package there is a noticeable difference off the line. That said, I do not know how to use the launch mode in my 135 and I'm not even sure if it has the same launch mode as the M3.

Right now I have Breyton 18" wheels (these were on the car when I bought it) and the car's suspension has been modified (dropped). I know that it has the performance exhaust, but otherwise I believe the car is stock.

In terms of the tunes, what would you recommend? I'm a girl, so layman's terms please
