2 sick shots of my light painting

First try with "light painting", using a canon t2i and a 36 led craftsman work light. 6 second exposure, iso 200, F5. Colors and brightness un-edited in the rear shot, a little brightness added in 2nd shot. Love how it came out!!! I might get them both printed in poster sizes

i like it, but i would do a second attempt of the z4m before you get them printed. you can get them much sharper than that, just make sure the tripod is very steady and put on a 2 second timer so your hand doesnt disturb the image.

Thanks for the tip. I was using a 2 second timer but i was off on my manual focus. Focused well on the scion though. I also want to wash the car next time and shoot it in RAW mode.

Try sticking with autofocus. Never failed me yet. And since your using a tripod, keep iso at the lowest setting

I was using a weak light source, and it was having a hard time finding focus. Iso was 200

You think 6 seconds is enough for exposure? F5 aperture

I would suggest using aperture priority and setting f-stop at 8-13. The exposure should be around 0 to +1.5. I've shot photos like this with up to 10 second exposure. All depends how much light you have

Shots are looking good, I especially like the second set.

You can use a flashlight and point it at the spot you want to auto focus (it can be a brighter light than the one you painted with) and then half depress the shutter button to focus. Then set your exposure with the light turned off. You may want to bracket +1 stop, or do it manually via shutter speed. Finally, use a remote as was suggested and an f stop of 10-12.

thanks for all the kind words! its really fun combining 2 hobbies. I take cars more seriously, but sometimes things come out great on the photo end.

I was using the bring worklight to help the camera autofocus. Its funny, that I first tried to remove the curled tree branch from the last pic, but it seems to look better with it there, as it adds interest to the picture and guides your eye along the car. I usually remove distractions like that

Now I have stuff to print.

Nice shots! Freaky sky...

A long time ago a photographer did some work for us with painted light. If i remember correctly, once he had a base exposure, I think he went back in on a second exposure and "painted" highlights with a smallish light to highlight certain areas of a six color printing press. That's all I got and I may be all wet on the description of the process, but it might give you some ideas to experiment with... maybe others can chime in to help this idea along.

Here's a link that is similar to what I'm talking about.

Really nice pics! Must say I will be happy if the words "my rear end" and "complete shave" don't end up in the same post again.....oops...

yeah i agree. the way the left side of the car blends into the black background, and the headlight is all you see on that side, it just looks very sinister. great shot and great effort all around.

you guys and your fancy photo lingo - pretty neat stuff.
