Camber Plates and BMW Warranty
Hello,
I have a 2011 135i and was looking at some track tires and possibly a staggered with plates setup. I was thinking of running a staggered setup with 245/35/18 front and 265/35/18 rear tires. I will need about -1.6 degrees camber for the front to fit. So my question relates to my stock wheel set and BMW warranty, etc. Are these plates made to adjust for race-day conditions then back to normal for my everyday wheels? Thanks P.S. Sorry for the question but I'm coming from the motorcycle world of racing... lol |

Yes and no. Depending on which plates you get depends on how "easy" it is to change back . I'd say that 90% of just set it and forget it. And if you're planning on tracking 1.6 degrees of camber won't be enough to get rid of the understeer. You'll be wanting around -2.5. I'm running 2.5 up front and 1.8 in the rear with a 225/255 setup and the car feels pretty neutral.

I have those on my car as do a few other members I regularly track with....we have done the set it and forget it. What warranty aspect are you worried about with having camber plates on?

I guess I have nothing to worry about with regards to warranty. This seems like the best setup for this car as it is also being used as a daily driver? I assume your 2011 is a daily driver and have another set of wheels for track only?

Your assumption would be correct. I use it as a track and dd setup. Pixelblue runs a similar setup for dd but has a dedicated set of track wheels/tires he uses. I want to say off the top of my head he uses -2.5 in front and -2 in the rear to run a square rcomp setup on 17's.

You cannot go wrong with vorshlag plates I loved them when I had my car. Also I wouldn't recommend changing camber setting as toe will change as well. I was running max setting of -2.5 on stock suspension and I didnt notice any inside wear. For tracking though I think I would like a bit more ~ -3 as my outsides were still wearing out more. But with -2.5 front end grip is significantly improved and the under steer nearly eliminated.

I loved the car, but it was lease which came to an end. With growing family I had to get something that both me or the wife could drive which meant auto-tragic route. I made the deal with the wife that if I find 2 cars for the same price as was the payment of my 1 er we would go that route. Well after 3 months of searching and test drives we ended up with nearly fully loaded passat in automatic and I picked up a low millage 350Z that I will be beating on for some time. I will definitely be back once 1 M coupe comes down in prices in 2-3 years as I love the platform and what it can offer. The only benefit with the Z I can see for now is that I can fit 285s all around without touching the fenders and there are plenty of wheel options out there. I went with Enkei RPF1 in 17x10. I am still researching tires but I will probably will go with Nitto NT01 in 275/40 17 for now. I will post vids and impression once I take it out for some hard driving, but for now the handling and steering feel is really good. BMW transmission was a lot smoother though and then there is the lack of power and torque compared to a tuned N54 |

I hear you with the growing family concerns. 350z are great. my nephew has one and I have driven it. actually I loved the gearbox. imo it felt better than the 1er. overall it's a better balanced car but I think it's achilles heel are the brakes. look forward to your review and videos. btw love the RPF1

Lubo man sucks that you had to get rid of the 135, but my 135 benefitted from your camber plates haha. Zs are fun cars although I've never attributed feel as one of their plusses. Sound good for a v6 though! I came from an 07 g35 cp myself. You'll have fun in the z!!

Yeah those plates do amazing things for the handling, enjoy them. I'll be around the forum constantly lurking and will be back in couple of years or maybe sooner if my business will pick up from that 2 year slumber that I've been stuck in |

My suspension/alignment shop (well regarded locally) said they could only safely max it out at -1.9 and they had to play with the toe quite a bit. They said otherwise the spring would be rubbing cuz our stock springs have a wide diameter. If you don't mind, could you post your alignment specs? |
