Does anyone have the procedures to replace the oil filter housing gasket? dealership quoted $850 car just went out of warranty! How difficult is the change?

What the hell? I have no idea what it is with these cars, I have never even heard of changing that part on any other car. I really do enjoy driving my car more than any other car I've ever owned but the maintenance costs are really astronomical by comparison to non-german brands. It is really making me consider what make my next car might be.
