There are some exhausts that don't drone but those same exhaust become too loud when the system becomes Catless with an straight x pipe. My question is which exhaust will still be civilized with that setup? I kno akra and Dinan would be good choices but something more affordable than akra would be great!

I did the Fabspeed Maxflo mufflers with the RPI x pipe and I have NO drone. The fabspeed mufflers are really quiet to start with so with an x pipe they come alive!

The problem is that you want a straight piped setup with no drone. IMO, this is almost impossible.

Fabspeed MaxFlo gets my vote. We have a 600hp supercharged E92 with no cats at all. Just a Fabspeed primary cat bypass, Fabspeed resonated XPipe and Fabspeed MaxFlo. Absolutely no drone at any reasonable driving speeds. The car sounds absolutely unreal at WOT, but on the highway it's close to stock. Best of both worlds - period.
We have them in stock, and we are kicking off a promo tomorrow :-)

This guy is dead on, the Fabspeed mufflers have no drone. It took me 6 different exhaust configurations to get here but I am catless and have no drone. To take it one step further my Fabspeed mufflers are paired with one of the loudest x pipes in the game. These truly are amazing mufflers and I say that after owning two M3's and a bunch of different exhaust systems. Fabspeed FTW |

This is the answer. Don't try to fix it with an axle back. At best you will end up with something so loud it masks the drone. Catless and resonatorless x-pipes are for kids or for race cars. At a minimum, add one pair of resonators. I am adding two pairs.

if you want to get rid of drone, you'll have to put some resonators in the x-pipe... I highly doubt you can have just straight pipes and not have drone... I got a Borla X-pipe... haven't had time to install it yet, but it has 4 resonators so it should sound pretty good.

trust me since you have 4 resonator on your xpipe... akra will be your best bet... you can have it loud but at the same time its really quite on cruises...

Just to update this thread, I bought the fab speed muffler and there's virtually no drone! Mike gave me amazing customer service! And it sounds amazing from outside but quiet in the cabin.
