135i N55 strange buzzing/whirring noise

Gidday yall!

I'm picking up this noise not long after driving. It comes through the cabin as some kind of a metallic ringing noise but sounds different under the bonnet and much louder from outside. But it goes away once I stop the engine and restart it again.

So I took it into BMW and they insisted it was the cooling system for the injectors as the car gotten hot. I am confused as I never got the noise in the first whole year of driving and the fact that the noise now comes on way before it reaches normal operating temperature.

Thanks for the clip mcm. I can pick up the ticking sound that sounds like a diesel engine sound in the clip. Mine has that too and I think that's normal. But this noise is just a constant buzz which comes from around the VANOS area on the left side of the engine. I have recorded it and will post it up soon.

Here it is. The noise is definitely not normal. It's so damn loud on the outside, I could hear it all the way inside and through to second level of the house. This was recorded after the car has been out and back as the noise did not come out early this time.

Silly question, but are your climate control fans off? Now you have me speculating...

WTF, that's loud! And annoying! I can't add anything to the list of differential diagnoses but I hope it gets sorted for you quick-smart!

Well it's going back for a wheel alignment on tuesday and getting looked at again. If they tell me it's nothing and normal again, I'm gonna open a can of whoop ass.

It doesn't affect the driving experience. Everything seemed to be normal during acceleration.

You were right skycat. It is the waste gate not being able to fully open. Part is coming n should be all good by tomorrow. Thanks mate.
