Question Radar Detector Installation

Has anyone out there installed, or had professionally installed, one of the Beltronic or Escort " hidden" radar detectors in their 1m?

You think you could hide it at all in the 1M interior but still have functionality? I haven't seen anyone retrofit one yet to the 1M. I believe there are posts about mounting it near the dome lights of 135 but not really incorporating it into the car.

I tend to agree but then I saw the Beltronics STi-R Plus. It is installed in the grill and behind the plates. Expensive but invisible! Someone must have given it a try?

I was just looking at this the other day. Since the 1M doesn't have a forward 12v Accessory plug I cant use my Escort detector. I was planning to use the 12v supply to the dome lights for power and then integrate the "silence" button for the detector to the on/off switch for the light. The Escort uses a RJ45 input so wiring and terminating should be easy.

Question On the Escort Radar install...

Can I ask you where you got it installed and how much it cost? I like how you did it.

Since the install on a 1M would not be any different than any other E82 coupe.. probably should look in the regular 1 series forums. I know I don't do this enough..

This is is one of the cleanest installs I've ever seen: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...ghlight=9500ci

The mirror display is key, otherwise I'm planning to do something similar except the control module will be hidden under the ashtray in the smokers insert that can be ordered from the dealer (replaces the ugly storage bin standard in US cars)

Great hidden one. But you have to have the compass mirror... and have the entire thing custom installed... how much do you think a job like that can run

There are some 135i V1 hardwire threads on 1addicts that advocate using a fusetap from the fusebox located behind the glove compartment and then running power up the passenger-side A-pillar to your overhead location of choice. Only problem I see with using the domelight power supply is that it's not tied to ignition status. E.g. ideally you'd only want the V1 on when the car is turned on, vs. the domelight power which seems like it'd be always hot.

Good call, didn't think of that. Back to the drawing board.
