I used Scotch 3M painter's tape (one roll of 3" wide x 60 yds) with great results. I think it was about $12 at Home Depot.

Dang, it's only a car! Drive the piss outta it and enjoy! Stop worrying so much!
I'll never forget watching the guy at VIR cover the front of his Ferrari with track tape. His session was black flagged and a short time later his car came in on a hook. Thank God the front, where he put the tape, was fine. Now the backing it into the tore wall, well that left a mark!

Really? I pick my 1M up on 12/2. Should I tape it? Does anyone have stats on "dings received" on the drive home? What are the odds. Blue tape is just asking for it, isn't it?

Got mine on 10/27, brought tape and was going to use it but said what the heck I'm not going to drive around at home with blue tape. I drove 500 miles home and got my pencil sized bumper ding over with. So if you plan on doing some sort of clear bra I say tape it the roll in the trunk does not scare the rocks away!

Like I said, I used it for the 500-mile trip home. After they hand the keys to you, just ask for a covered car port at the PCD, so you can apply the tape in the shade. Went through bugs, some light rain and construction zone. Worked just fine. |
