Anyone here add Bavarian SoundWerks Speakers to their 1 series
Any of you guys that had 135i's before. Ever get the upgraded speakers for your Non-HK sound system. Thinking about upgrading speakers. Curious if they sound much better.

Just to add to your curiosity, have you checked out the offerings from Ken at http://www.musicarnw.com/about/ ?
I believe he posts under VP Electricity here on the boards.

There was a really old posting about "Bavarian SoundWerks". basically you will not get better sound until you replace the amp in our cars. Bavarian SoundWerks had given a 1addicts member those speakers for free... in turn he made a great (biased) post... then many pages later he came clean. It was a BIG ordeal.
The way I see it you have three options. 1). Keep it stock and live with the basic sound you have now. Or 2). spend upwards of $2K on a custom sound system - like from VP Electricity (he really knows what he is talking about). He might even be the only guy in the states who knows the acustics of the 1er's best. or 3). Buy the BMW Alpine amp from a european dealer and have it installed and coded to work with your factory HU. The Alipine Amp kit costs about 400 euros plus another few hundred for coding. Dackel |

Here is where you can buy the Alpine amp kit. You will also need the triangle tweeter mounts (pods) too. The kit comes with tweeters but not the mounting pods. 355 euros. HiFi system Alpine midrange loudspeaker/tweeter/amplifier Product number: 65-41-0-445-684 http://www.schmiedmann.com/1_series/...age1.htm#19444 |

Nothing really "Wrong" with it. If it was in a 335i, it would be fine, but the 1M exhaust is louder, even at crusing speeds. I love the sound of it but if I want to listen to tunes, it is overwhelmed by the exhaust note a bit. If I could find something not to crazy expensive like an amp or a speaker upgrade that gave me a little more oomph, it would be nice. I don't want to spend too much thought because most of the time the radio is off. I LOVE THE SOUND OF THIS CAR! I give the brakes a 10 out of 10 and the exhaust a 10 out of 10.
You got HK on yours right? |

Base w/o tweeters just a six speaker setup: two in the doors, two subs, and two rear deck speakers. HK: eight speaker setup with a more powerfull amp and tweeters in the door mirror area, plus subs and rear deck. ??? IF you have tweeters you must have the better amp/system. ? |

The HK has the same configuration but with two extra tweeters in the decklid. I compared every speaker and amp and the HK has all different part numbers. |

No, just base 1M. I almost went HK when it was $875, but then they forced you to get iPod also for $450 more. Didn't seem worth it. I don't do iPod. Almost $1400 for HK. Mine is a stripper, except for satellite radio.

This is the thread discussing the Bavarian Soundwerks option:
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...ian+Soundwerks It has a mixture of messages but the guys who bought the system seemed to like it. Unlike what was done on another forum, I think this one was started by somebody who bought the speakers - but I did not re-read all of it. I don't think you can count on a lot more volume, however. That probably requires a bigger amp. Jim

Dackel, you're right. For US Spec cars, there are only two options. The HK and base (hifi standard). Unless they changed what's standard for the US?

Check Ken's page on how to identify though: http://www.musicarnw.com/identifying...audio-systems/ But if you have the tweeters, you have the pro headunit at the very least. The HK adds the digital input amp.

Ya, I remember we went back and forth on this together. I think it cost me $750 so no brainer, I paid that for the hifi in the 135. I know your situation was different.
Ya I do, but I think the hifi I have in the 135 is equivalent to the standard in the M. I havent tried out the HK, in Germany I had it off. No complaints really about the 135 Hifi option. |

nachob: can you find out the exact speaker specs on the BavSound package? I was considering their solution years ago for my E39 M5, found out they were using MB Quart speakers, which I could source for less than 1/2 of what they were asking. Nevertheless called them and gave them a chance (were a board sponsor on the M5Board), but they didn't budge. So bought them from a local audio store and installed them myself. In fact I opted for one level higher on the MB Quart's (Refernz Series IIRC)and was still 30% below what BavSound asked for lower spec speakers. So let them do the research for you, then go your own way if pricing continues to be that different.
