Fair price for 2009 E90?

I found a pretty nice car at a dealership in Chicago, here's the info:

2009 E90 jerez black, extended fox red
12k miles
DCT, tech/premium/cold, sound, moonroof, basically loaded

My preference is for black interior, but the car has everything else I want.

Car is not CPO due to low milage/cost to dealer, but they can provide (and I would want it).

They are asking 58k which I think is way too much...I would figure 45-48k including CPO. I'd probably drive to Chi-town this weekend for that price.

They got the car at an auction in March...who knows what they paid for it then.

Any thoughts? They've been sitting on this car for almost 6 months now...and I would imagine in the next 4-6 months there will be a lot more 09's available as they come off lease periods.

45-48k for 09 cpo? Right..

You are finding 08 private sellers for 42-45, and cpo for 48ish.

I paid 49k for my CPO'd 08 E90 6 months ago... similar options to the car you are citing, mine with 22,000 miles. Not saying I got the best deal in the world, but I did shop around a while. I would expect to spend $55,000 on the car you are referencing.

+1 but the price of the car in question is a bit high. I bought my 08 e90 last year march for 52k. I would expect the 09 to be somewhere around that price now.

bought an 09 with 3000 miles on it in september last year. it is cpo. e90. dct. 19" wheels. no navi/edc. all other options and the carbon leather interior trim. i paid 55,995 cpo.

i would say they shoulde to let that one go for 50-51 if it is not cpo.

I'm with you. They are insane if they are asking that much.

Big difference between an '08 and an '09. If you think you're going to steel an '09 CPO under $50k, you're dreaming. Haven't you guys read about the strength of the used car market lately? If the car is nice and CPO'd, you're going to pay up for it.

OP said car is not cpo. no one said under 50K maybe you didn't read my post correctly. I paid 52k over a year ago so I'm guessing it should be around that range now. Could be more could be less. My car was cpo with 3000 miles.

Low $50s will be about right with CPO. Another volunteer to trade black for your FR interior...

OP did say they he wanted to pay in the $48k range with CPO but the dealer is asking $55k (assuming not CPO).

I would think considering the low miles, strength of the used market, and adding on CPO you'd be getting a fair deal around $52-54k.

correct. with cpo I would say the same thing around 52-54k non cpo 48-50k. Now it also depends on the options on the car.

Let us know what you get the dealer down to -- $58k to $48k would be an incredible jump that I don't think will happen. Split the difference, and it is possible.

Again, you really have to know the original sticker price in addition to the years and miles, and whether it is CPO or not and the in-service date regardless so you know how much warranty remains. Then you can compare.

My understanding is that CPO adds no more than about $2k to the cost, but it is variable. Many times the biggest dealer cost is replacing the tires...

12k miles on original tires means you have perhaps another 3k miles on them, after that it's an additional $1300+ to keep the car going. Just another data point and/or negotiation tool...

I have asked a few dealers about CPO'ing their M3's and they say it adds 3-4k to the price. I believe dealers can set their own price, but that just sounds ridiculous.

I've heard varying numbers up to about $4000. It probably depends on the dealer, how much profit they are trying to make, and what they need to put into the car to make it CPO-able (tires, etc).

I agree that $58k to $48k is probably an impossible jump unless they've been sitting on it for a long time. Splitting the difference is possible if they want to move the car. The fact that you can no longer order an E90 and there is no 4dr M3 on the horizon probably hurts the OP's position.
