I had an E92 M3.............and I don`t regret it.........
Just as quick, but more nimble and less fuell consumption.....what do you want more? I love the stance off the 1M, far better ten the, to much stretched M3... Last edited by Romo; 08-29-2011 at 02:02 AM.. |

i drop my friends e92 m3 extensively b4 i decided on the 1M. I loved every part of the 1M over the m3 rather than styling and back seats.
But the 1M was way more fun, better day to day mileage, and imho gets more look sin VO. |

What's there to regret? Have you seen the reviews and the demand for this car? BMW can't build them fast enough.
I've driven a couple of e92 M3's and was never really convinced to own one...too big, too heavy, terrible gas consumption for my taste; however, prior to the 1M, it was my favorite M car so it definitely has my respect. |

Having both
Hi, I have both. 08 e93 m3 interlagos blue. And VO 1M. Wife drives the m3 as her DD and I drive the 1M now. They are two completely different cars. If I had to choose for my uses I would pick the 1M. But m3 does offer luxury, ride comfort, refined interior over the 1M. I describe the m3 as a luxury sport feel while the 1M feels like a real sports car.

Drove my E46 M3 to the dealer and drove an E92 M3 and a 135i back to back at the dealer. Then drove my E46 M3 to my buddies house and drove his E93 M3 with an exhaust to make 110% sure.
The only thing you lose out on by buying a 1M instead of an M3 (of any recent generation) is the magnificent throttle response. Nothing can replicate or replace the feel of a car with individual throttle bodies. I will dearly miss it when my 1M arrives to replace my E46 M3. Stock for stock the E92 M3 faster than the 1M if you're driving at 100% and taking it up to 8400RPM in every gear. In practical situations around town and the highway, the 1M is faster than the M3. Comparing the E92 to the E46, it is about 5% quicker all around the rev range (12% more torque but about 6% more weight) and that's exactly what it feels like: a 5% improvement on the E46 M3. Granted it's suspension is MUCH better but the added heft negates it for me. And that is why I went with the 1M: I got the awesome suspension from the E92 M3 attached to a motor with a very large, flat torque curve installed in a chassis that's lighter and similar in size to my E46 M3! |

unless you want to track the car regularly or really want better fuel economy i can't see why you would trade the M3 for a 1M. other than just looking to get a new car.
performance-wise you won't see much of a difference. |

The feel will be different. The weight difference alone is going to significantly impact things.

The E9x M3 are great machines.. Awesome GT car... But the added weight affects the handling feel, the difference between a vehicle that understeers vs one that is neutral or even tends to oversteer... as well as the difference in wheelbase... completely different driving feel. Both extremely capable... one refined... one more raw. I suppose my ultimate M garage would have an E30 M3 track car, a 1M for autocross and track...and a E90 M3 (i prefer the sedan) as daily driver for it's overall utility and class... plus that V8... Arrr Arrr Arrr! Last edited by M3 Adjuster; 08-29-2011 at 12:13 PM.. |

+1 or -1 will lead to nothing.........Motivate why change to the 1M or just keeping the M3, that`s what will enlighten us here.....
M3; 1 Throttle response is unmatched 2 Fuel consumption is unmatched (doesn`t matter if you drive easy, or step on it, it just consumes like an alcoholic) 3 Styling is great 4 Is more a GT then a true sportscar 5 The best compromise for a daily driver 6 Best seats on a bimmer ever 7 Plenty of M3`s around 1M 1 It is a TT, so less throttle response, but it ain`t that bad, still a fantastic 6IL engine, witch suits the car better, V8-M3 combo is over the top IMO 2 Fuel consumption is far better, but stepping on it will still do bad milage, here you have a choice 3 Stance is better, not that stretched like the M3 4 More nimble, less weight...ow this is the most important reason to change cars IMHO 5 A little less comfortable like an M3, but still a very good daily driver 6 Seats are fine, but no match for the M3 ones 7 Limited production/edition I was in for a new car, another M3 wouldn`t do it for me, been there, done that, I choose the 1M because of less weight, more nimbleness.....did I made the wright choice?? You bet I did...........I love to drive this car, with all due respect, the M3 is a fantastic car, but I do like the M1 more....... Last edited by Romo; 08-29-2011 at 12:31 PM.. |

I'm facing the same tough choice. What makes it even more difficult is that I have an E90 M3, and a soon to be 3 yo son to haul around.

They are both fantastic cars and I'd be happy to be driving either one. Both are very close in performance and the better driver will always be faster regardless of which car he's in.
M3 +: High revs, beautiful sound, quick throttle response 1M +: Shorter wheelbase (more fun to drive around corners), lighter weight, available power in gear In the end they both have merits and compromises in different places. It's just stupid to argue about it and in the end comes down to personal preference. I don't think anyone who has gone from the M3 to the 1M would regret the decision. When I went from my 135i to the M3 I missed the go-kart feel (relatively speaking of course) of the 1 series, but the M3 impresses in many other areas.

Anybody think z4m is a closer comparison to the 1m than m3? I have both of them I prefer m3 for longer drives much more comfy but I love my z4m for that raw sensation plus that throttle response with sport mode on is overkill ..
