6mt tranny replaced

Just got my transmission replaced under warranty for grindy balky shifts. Bought it with 17 miles on the clock two years ago this October and the tranny never smoothed out so I said something after 15 k miles. The transmission couldn\'t be better now. I can\'t believe I drove it for so long before saying something. If youve got this issue with the 6mt id say have your dealer evaluate it immediately. I was worried when they told me I\'d need a new transmission. Now I guess I have to worry that the new one will last or at least not fall out of the car.

Nice to hear. What year is your car?

After reading many reports on grinding, I still suspect these tranny's have synchro issues.....

Did they tell you what was failing inside the tranny?

i have an early model 2008 6MT, I've never had such issues, aside from clunky 1-2 shift from time to time. It seems like the fluid needs to be warmed up to work smoothly.

I wonder if I'll ever have the issue others have been talking about.

My model year is 2009. They couldn't give me a technical description of the exact problem but I was amazed how fast the dealership recognized and corrected the problem. Now that I have a good transmission, it's very obvious the old one was faulty. Funny thing is some days the old tranny would feel ok, and others not so good. Makes me think there was something in the fluid (metal shavings?) that would bind up the synchros as it got stirred up. I broke the car in religiously and got the appropriate fluid change at 1200 miles.

It sounds like you have those issues now. Cold or not the tranny is smooth. The 1-2 shift is now a hare slower than the other shifts but not clunky at all. I can't feel the synchros mesh like I could with the old tranny. I'd find another 6mt and drive it to see if yours feels the same. I went almost two years with a crappy transmission because I didn't know any better.
