What does the next generation M3 need to do to be successful in your eyes?
I think it needs to do these things:
1. Lose A LOT of weight. 2.Quality needs to improve 3. No electrical steering. 4. The M3 is bloated as it is, no more tech toys! ///M cars aren't suppose to have cameras! Then, I'd buy one....and hopefully be able to afford a P-Car as a weekend car. |

less weight
Def no electric steering Def no new fancy luxo options there putting in the 5er and 7er And i hope they dont try to compete for the horsepower war with benz, i hope they find a way to smack MB in every other aspect of a real drivers car. Handling, feel, balance. But then again, BMW does always do that to MB lol. Oh and i hope they figure out a way to keep the redline at atleast 8k, but i doubt it being that the turbo will be ineviatable, even though i do wish we could get one more N/A car. |

I'm already driving that car plain and simple ///M3 with MT and Winter package ... none of the junk like the iDrive etc. etc. etc. ... oh I missed to mention I do have the sports package (sports seats and 19 inch Style m220 wheels).
all this extra stuff adds weight you know

9krpm sadly won't be possible with BMWs current turbo tech. I imagine it will be an N55. But OPs question is whether or not it will be successful in your eyes so I suppose that's another story.
Agreed with the HUD. I wouldn't be surprised to see this hit the lower end models by F3x time. I'd also add a better shift knob. Like really. Can they just ship the car with the ZHP knob!

A better M3
Just two things/changes:
1. Move door lock-unlock button from center dash to door, by window controls. 2. More tq than C63 - "Black Edition"

It's not impossible. BMW could easily squeeze some extra efficiency from a V8. Hell, McLaren has a 3.6-liter TT V8, and Corvette will have a small displacement V8 that'll produce good power and gas mileage numbers.
BMW just doesn't want to stay with the V8 because of the M5/M6. They could easily do our 4-liter V8s with more a little extra power and torque, but also mpg. It can all be done... They just don't want to do it. I want the M3 to have the same luxury and amenities that it has now, but with no less than 350-370 lb-ft of torque. The horsepower is something I'm fine with. If they kept it at 414, I'd still be happy. But if they bumped it to 425-450, I'd be happy with that, too. No more than 450, because then it's just getting to be too much. The M3 has always been the best at having less power, better power to weight, and being the best overall car to drive in almost any way. I want them to keep a 4-door version, because I need 4 doors. I'd love to see them use more carbon fiber with the body panels, or just lighter materials in general. Let people have what they want. 3400 lbs MAX for overall weight. Make the M3, then make a CSL and a GT4 version for people to buy and do what they want with. Stop it with the stupid limited edition models that add nothing more than a special paint color and some interior finishes... Oh, and make a damn V8 version, even if it's limited production. This way they can still race in LMS with the V8 and sell a $100,000+ V8 model to a few hundred lucky people AROUND THE WORLD. Not just Europe and China, but America, too. We buy more Ms than anyone, damnit.

Next M3 qualities
Mine is my daily driver, so I don't want to give up all the features.
- 450 hp, 350 tq - Beefier brakes - 3,400 lb max, but same size - Keep excellent responsiveness and sound even with turbos - Better economy - No radar cruise, back up cameras, etc. - Oh, yeah, and a dipstick!

Dipstick, brakes, and progressive handling improvement like they did from e46 to e9X.

I find it funny how people mention "no backup camera" like that will drop 50lbs from the car. Equipment like that is less than half a pound. Then you'll probably get the 20" rim option.

Considering almost everything is an option, I don't see how that affects someone who doesn't want options.
