1, I believe the first and only model to have traditional automatics before the XM5/6 came along, was the E36M3 sedan if I'm not mistaken.

I was going to correct and add a few things... Especially in relation to how many are being produced. However I really have no clue now....

Wait. It said that the 1M was considered a real M car in the M car bs Msports section. And then it said that the M3 was the last real one a few sections later.

Believe the 1995 E36 M3 coupe preceeded the sedan with an optional automatic, can't recall if luxury pack was a prerequisite or not. Remember when I bought my 95 M3 wondering what the heck BMW was thinking.....
