Question Should I be concerned?

I literally just received this Koni sport shock, just 1 (the rest are arriving tomorrow) and when I opened the box I noticed the threading was rusted on one end. Here are some pics:

it's been a while since i had a new set of koni yellows, but mine came with some surface rust as well (though nowhere near that much). that's nothing to be too worried about. when you say some of the threads are flat, do you mean like what happens when you crossthread a nut onto them? i'd be a lot less forgiving of that. overall i'd guess you're probably fine, but that looks like pretty poor quality control (at least cosmetically) from the retailer. if it annoys you, i'd say you're justified in asking for replacements.

I"d call koni and ask, specially if they're new.

You could have Koni run those shocks on one of their shock dynos. Maybe they have been sitting on the shelf for a long time. ?

Some surface rust is no big deal though. Get some steel wool and clean it up IF it bothers you.

Whether or not it affects the actual usage of the strut itself, it's unprofessional to not only send one piece first with the other three arriving the day after, but to also receive a dirty, possibly worn piece. When you order these, they should come brand new in a box. They shouldn't arrive with crap on them.

The small amount of rust won't really affect how they perform (Koni shocks are NOT stainless steel and will slowly rust anyway, but it is surface rust which will not affect performance, only aesthetics and resale value), but whatever vendor sold you that should not have sent you a worn item.

I agree, I called Koni and left a message. The vendor that sold them to me has no problem with me returning them, which I will be doing. Thanks guys.

Yea honestly I cant imagine buying a brand new ANYTHING and receiving it with loads of rust all over the metal parts, that says anything BUT new part to me. If I get a new part I expect it shining and free of any external rusting or dirt. Period.

Looks like the reason the threads are flat is because they have been installed.
