ED plates: keep 1 or leave both?

Got this as part of the ED email: "License Plates:

European Customs Regulations require both license plates to remain on the vehicle for European Inland transportation. BMW understands that customers would like to keep their license plates as a souvenir; The rear license plate is mounted properly to the vehicle and it should be intact upon arrival to your dealer. BMW of North America assumes no liability for replacements"

In the past I took off my front plate and left the rear plate. Is this no longer the case and we have to leave both plates @ drop off?

I left both of mine on car at drop off. I'll find out on Aug. 11th when I take redelivery at BMW Performance Center in SC.

I have a friend that did same( ED and PCD) 3 weeks ago with an M3 and had both plates still on car.

mind posting if your back plate was left on the car on the 11th? (my drop off is on the 12th in Paris). would be helpful to see if their instructions are correct. i'd raise hell if i couldnt get my 3rd plate.

I know some 1M ED customers took the front plate off. Drop off location might matter since it says for European inland transport. I am dropping off at the port so there should be no inland transport for me.

I kept my front plate in 07 on my 335i, and the rear was on the car at delivery at my dealer. However the laws have changed in Germany requiring Both plates to be left on the car. There is no reason why they shouldn't be on the car at delivery in the US.

I don't know if this will work but I left this note taped to dash when I dropped my car off.

I printed it off the Bimmerfest ED website, listed under "what to pack"

http://www.bimmerfest.com/wiki/index...ng_for_Pick_Up

I'll let you know on the 11th.

You have to leave them both on the car, it's the new regulation. They were both still on the car when I took delivery in the US as of last May.

As far as I know the plates should be there all the way through to your dealer and you just need to inform your dealer not to dispose them for prep.

I have a friend taking PCD today of an M3 and he saw my car there.

My front ED zoll plate is still on the car at Performance Center
I believe the rear plate will be in trunk.

He doesn't mean driving around the US with two sets of plates. He's asking whether he needs to leave both Euro plates on the car when he drops the car off for shipment at the end of his Euro Delivery trip. In the past, you were allowed to take the front plate with you but had to leave the rear plate on the car.

Nice! Interesting how both plates were over 3 yrs apart, yet almost in concession to one another numerically!

Anyone know how these are allocated? FS&Gs, I am happy I got one starting with "M 1xxx" but just wondering if there is any logic to this madness

I believe each year they just count sequentially and then start over the following year. I remember reading that on here somewhere.

I just picked up my 1M yesterday. It still has both European plates. Do I remove them by peeling them off the bumpers? Are they attached simply by double-sided tape? If so, should I heat the area first before removal?

just double sided tape, yank them off and clean it up underneath and you're done, wont damage paint if that's what you're afraid of

Correct me if I'm mistaken, only the front plate is attached with double-sided tape.
