Question Decent Price for Private Party?

I don't know how much to trust kbb values, but here's what I'm looking at:

2008 CPO M3 IB/Silver (private party)
34k
Every package/option available in 2008 (+ CF roof)
Dinan exhaust, Dinan intake
Factory warranty for another year, then CPO kicks in for 4 years
Car appears to be in pristine condition (yet to see it in person)
Asking 47k

Thoughts?

How does CPO happen in a private party sale?

I asked this same question yesterday, someone answered that you just bring it into BMW to have it CPO certified.

I would confirm with the dealer to be sure... also, there is a cost to CPO a car, not sure if that's included in the price. I think it is around $2,500 in Canada, not sure $$ in the US.

The seller probably bought the car as a CPO; the seller is the second owner. He's passing along the CPO status to OP here.

To get an accurate idea of current value, call around to local dealers trying to "sell" them this same car. See what they offer. Add a couple thousand to that. Offer that figure to seller. I'd guess the figure is around 52-54% of the original MSRP.

CPO card is dated 3/2008. Autocheck lists it as one owner.

52-54% of original MSRP is ridiculous. That puts it in the 30k range.

That doesn't make sense... the original owner cannot CPO the car for himself. You can only CPO on a sale to a new owner and it has to be CPO'd by a dealer. Either this person is the second owner or something is unusual here.

Call some dealers, see what they'll pay for the car. Also try to find auction data.

KBB doesn't write checks...

Non CPO 43k - 44k would be a good deal. Figure add 3k for the CPO. I think 47 is a good deal, anything under would be gravy.

I found out it was his dad's car. Maybe autocheck only calculated it as one owner because it's under the same last name...

All of this sound very weird...also since when does CPO kick in for another 4 years?? It's always been 2 years or 100k miles, whichever comes first.

And also, there might be a transfer fee to transfer the CPO status to you, it might only be $100 but you should still find out.
