Key battery discharged?

I have CA and I turned my car on and got a chime. It said key battery discharged. Really weird. Anyone else get this?

The manual states that the CA battery is not rechargeable like the normal keys. You will have to replace the battery. My car hasn't even arrived yet (still on the water) and I have read the manual twice already. Does anybody actually read the manual other than myself?

Just go buy a new battery at Target/Walmart/etc. It's like 2-3 bucks compared to 10-20 at the dealership.

Not many do. CA keys as others have said are not rechargeable. Your dealer should replace it under warranty. (BTW, mine lasted several months after I got the first battery-low indicator.)

I know it's not rechargeable. No where near my post did I say anything about the FOB having a rechargeable battery. If you read carefully it says a got a chime and a message saying " key battery discharged" so maybe you should stop worrying about the manual and try and read the post before you come down like a condescending ass.

Just did the battery swap last night. It was 3 bucks for a two pack! Wouldn't waste gas driving to the dealer to have them do it.

Wow! I did read your post and you seemed clueless (as quoted above). It wouldn't be "really weird" if you read the manual and knew you had to replace the key battery every now and then. Now calm down and go for a drive.

Oh crap, I thought they were using those batteries that last for a thousand years!!! LOL

Nice clue from your car that the battery is nearly dead. Maybe it's just me, but that's better than discovering it when you can't unlock the door.

Very few people ever read the entire owners manual.

It's been said that it's the most unread book in the world.

That's why BMW supplies an actual key inside the FOB.
