San Diego Crime?

Hello guys, I am moving from Boston to San diego next month. A friend and I found a really nice condo on Imperial beach (zip code 91932). I was just wondering if anybody knew how safe that area is? Would it be fine to park my M3 on the street everyday? Anybody heard bad crime stories about that place?

Thanks

I'm actually making a move to the area as well (but from LA). I haven't heard too much, but I'm overly cautious and don't trust people so I only considered places with a garage.

Would be interested in hearing what people from the area have to say as well.

I'm on vacation in San Diego at the moment, staying at the Del Coronado and I've driven around a lot of San Diego. I've found the people to be really nice and respectful. There are a lot of hispanics here which isn't really a surprise as Mexico is about 20 mins south of San Diego. It's kind of a big city for me as I have grown up in the Midwest, St. Louis, MO, but you should be fine as you are from Boston.

Welcome to SD.
This is where you need to hang from now on.
Make new friends and ask local things.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...71209&page=196

We have pretty decent and tight group of friends in E90 3ers and M3 people in town.
I moved from VA to here, San Diego and made a good friends in that chatroom (and local meets).

you'll love san diego weather and everything. Crime happens everywhere, and leaving your car on the street will increase risk of your car getting stolen, damaged, thief and etc.

Thanks guys, I look forward to meeting u at future car meets! I have been to San diego 3 or 4 times before, but I haven't been to the Imperial Beach area. Some reviews on the internet say there are gangs and bikers etc.. Just wanted to see if you guys heard anything about that.

You should be ok....but depends on what area you will be living. A lot of street parking and car ports are fine....but again it depends on the demographics of your neighbors and neighborhood.

Nevermind, we are ditching the Imperial Beach idea. The ocean pollution during winter, and shady reputation made us change our mind. Now we r looking for a place in Mission Bay or La Jolla.

Both are good place.
La Jolla is def. one of the best place to live in SD and that where San Diego's own Cars and Coffee happens every Sat. One of member who has ESS E90M3 and 1M live there as well.

Good choice in moving to SD, however I don't think I would ever be bold enough to park an M3 on the street every night(esp. in a beach area with lots of bars, drunk drivers, etc.). A place with a garage would be at the top of my list.

Oh boy... more Boston people moving to Mission/Pacific Beach/La Jolla area. Seriously, you guys have a strong showing here. Seems like half of the local bars are now claiming Red Sox as some sort of ploy to get you guys to spend money there. Welcome to SD, just try not to be too over the top with the whole Boston thing. A lot of people who live here are getting kinda sick of it. I see Boston Red Sox logos spray painted on the sidewalk now with a big red X through them so I know it's not just me.

If I were you I would try to get a garaged spot if you are going to be in the Beach areas. There are lots of homeless people and drunks around. My rooommates car has been messed with a few times on the street. People are always rubbing bumpers too. It sucks. Most newer condos come with at least underground gated parking now.

Enjoy the weather, the beach, and of course the burritos!

have you guys given up driving downtown? those roads are terrible (from what I've seen the 2 times going through there), and I'm terrified at the prospect of driving on them when I get my new wheels.

Just moved from SD to Oxnard and Imperial Beach is not the place you want to be!!! East or North of that is much, much better. Good luck
