Jumpy downshifting?

So yesterday I am out in the m3 and decided to take a back road on the way home from work, it was a nice day and the weather was suitable so I decided why not show my car some speed. Granted this was the first time I have done this with the car because it is still pretty new (1580 miles) When i started off by downshifting to 3'nd gear from 4'th gear the car started off smoothly gave me throttle response and everything I thought it would be, but then when i would slow down for a corner and drop down to first gear the car would be very jumpy and erratic. I used to do the same thing on my 09 335i and it was much smoother downshifting then the m3, is this normal???

yes depending on what your doing, it might be normal. the throttle is pretty sensitive particularlly if you are using power or power plus mode. smooth throttle imputs are rewarded. having said that the car will tend to buck a little if cold or if you shift and arent consistent with input. i notice this on 0-60 runs on the 1st to 2nd shift. if i am tenative after the shift it lurches but if i hammer it it keeps giving it back.

Yea I also noticed that when I slowed down I faced the problem but when I would give it hell it seemed like it was at home again.

I have no idea if it is normal or not, but my car did the same thing when downshifting in a corner... It hesitated a little and followed by a jumpy downshift... I did notice that it always happens between 2nd and 1st gear only.

This car performs like an M3 ONLY when it's driven like an M3.

Another question would be DCT or 6MT? I'm assuming your 335i was an auto.

When im coming in at 15 mph I downshift to first so I can take off after the corner. It is DCT and the 335i was an auto.

Well that kinda sucks but I assume it is one of those things that m3 owners deal to live with.

I never downshift into first unless I am going literally like 2 mph. If I ever slow down for a corner the lowest I'll shift is 2nd gear. A lot smoother.

why downshift to 1st? There should be plenty of power in 3k-2k range in 2nd gear.
What you're doing is like really hard with a 6MT to get perfect.

With DCT I'd say this is a function of the transmission. With a 6MT you should be able to match revs to get it smooth, but I don't know what the DCT is doing. I'd say as long as you're moving don't go lower than second gear. You should still be in the "power" part of the torque curve coming out of the turn.

Cheers.

Thats correct, imo, first gear should only be used from a complete stop.
even if you drive slow, take the corner on a second gear.
