Boost pressure

Hi Guys

I have a question regarding boost pressure.
If we say the car boosts 0.8 bar is that gauge preasure or absolute?

gauge pressure, absolute would mean pressure was greater than 1 bar.

1 atmosphere = 1 bar. So 0.8 bar would mean 1.8 bar.

I believe the factory boost gauge reads (absolute pressure - 1bar), but the DME boost targets are setup for a delta gain of psi above 1 bar.

I say this because:
1) I;m at 6k ft altitude and my gauge reads anywhere from -2.7 to -3psi while at idle.
2) I am still able to generate the same peak boost as those nearer to sea level, just have an extra ~3psi to overcome to get there and extra heat as a result.
