Hey BMWNA, Where's my SWAG?!?

After enviously watching our brethren across the pond get 'showered' with plaques and special gifts for purchasing a 1M, I have decided to take the low road and right out ask BMWNA to throw something into the US customer pot to further sweeten the deal for us. Here is the letter I sent via the 'contact us' link on bmwusa.com

Quote:
Hello,

I recently purchased a 1 Series M coupe and have been told that my production will be in week 31.

I, along with many other US 1M owners, have been enviously eyeing the various special gifts and plaques being provided to UK/French 1M owners.

Is there any intent by BMWNA to provide something similar to this to your largest customer base? Most of us are paying MSRP or above and putting up with the inconvenience of waiting months for our cars and a little gesture of appreciation would go a long, long way toward ensuring our loyalty to the BMW brand even further.

Kind Regards,
Hey, sometimes if you don't ask, you go empty handed!

We get 4 years maintenance on an M car! I'll take that overy any drawing or hat any day. I don't think the other countries get that. Do the math, the maintenance is a deal and in my pay grade, I would not have gotten the 1M without it. With that said, I wish we got a plaque with 1 of xxx.

The problem with the plaque is that they are not limiting it here so they don't know how many will be built...this is a GOOD thing or many of would not be able to get one. Once it's done, though I would love it if they gave us a plaque like the French guy that has 1 of (total run for US)

Maybe someone here can get us in communication with the M guy...I think his name is Russell something.. BMW should be able to track number and final production and issue decals? Even if they charge a fee, I would pay it. Anyone know the US M GUY???

Good point about free maintenance.

However, the UK deal isn't bad. I think I saw that they can get 5yr/60k free service/maintenance for like $900.00.

If you consider that the 6yr/100k plan extension cost $3295, we would be paying around $2800 for an extra year.

The Maintenance Upgrade adds 2 years to the free maintenance.

Yes, I understand that. If you read my post again, you will note that in order to compare the US extended plan to the 5-yr UK plan, I calculated how much we would need to pay to have 5 yrs of coverage.

I got 4yr/50k mile maintenance on the 135 and I still got a gift every year on the anniversary of my purchase... a sketch and a carbon fiber pen that I recall. Oh ya and a book.

I tried reading your post multiple times. Your math doesn't make sense. We already have 4 yrs coverage. Two additional years is $3295, or $1648 per year; making 5 year coverage the equivalent cost of $1648 and not $2800.

Ok ... let me try this again. The goal was to equate the numbers as much as possible to the UK plan.

In the UK, they pay ~$900.00 for 5 years of coverage. This comes out to around $180.00/yr (very reasonable!)

In the US, we pay $0.00 for 4 years, but $3295.00 for 6 years.

So, essentially, if you get 6 years of coverage, you're paying (3295/6) $550/yr OR $2745.00 (550x5) for 5 years.

That still doesn't equate. The first 4 years are free, they skew the numbers.

Yes, the first 4 years are free. However, if you want 5 years of coverage like you get in the UK, you have to pay for 6 years and you have essentially paid for your '4 free' years.

The 4 years are in the cost of the car, you go ahead and itemize it out. In comparison to the UK you pay for 2 years at $3295.

Want to turn the thread back to it's original intent: to provide a forum for the US owners to discuss how we can convince BMWNA to individualize the 1M like the other countries.

Gifts etc are market dependent. Some markets might not be in a position to offer anything other than the car.

I'm not sure I understand this.

1. The US was (the last time I checked) still the largest and most important market for BMW and will continue to be for quite some time until the Chinese wealth actually spreads beyond the lucky few with government connections ( granted when the total population is 5x that of the US, 'few' can be quite large).

2. Audi and Mercedes have been eating into BMW market share in the US in the last few years.

3. The people who are going through the equivalent of a prostate exam by a man with hands the size of Shaq are true enthusiasts who will become even more fervent evangelists for the brand.

Please tell me what market conditions would keep BMW from spending a couple of hundred dollars on us?

Probably the fact that they make the least amount of money on the cars they sell here. Just my opinion.
